This synth is simply great. I use it for all of my synthdrum sounds (instead of sampling synth sounds). The supplied presets are great and tweaking them is easy.
This machine is a fully featured synth too, you don't have to stop with percussion. Although playing pitched sounds is a bit fiddly.
There is very little to complain about with this one. But some sounds are a little too crisp and digitaly (is that a word?) for some applications, though this nothing a little distotion or multiband distortion can't fix (the onboard filter overdrive doesn't realy do it for me except at minimal levels).

This is by far the berst "magazineware" to date! Sounds great, unique design, and very affordable ($13.99 here in the US). MTM had a good starters tutorial with the issue too. It's not nearly as extensive as his other instruments (Tera, D'Cota & Cube), but you can't complain at less than 1/16 the price. No reason not to pick up the mag.

reFX Junox²

This synth is great for quick and easy techno sounds, but that's about it. You just can't go wrong for $40 though, and I heard a while ago (hopefully it's still true) that the Junox3 that is in development will be a free upgrade no matter when you purchased 2 (though 3 will cost about $20 more). So if you make any sort of techno do yourself a favor and get this now.

The only problem I have with it is that it seems to have higher cpu ussage than most other synths (especialy for how simple it seems).

Muon Software Tau Pro

I've had this synth for a while (my first purchached one) and it's still my favorite. I use it at least twice in every "Techno" song I make. It's easy to program, looks nice, and sounds better than most synths that cost five times as much.
If you make any type of dance/techno music this synth is the best value you can find, end of story.

I've been using this synth since I first started reading CM magazine abaout 6 months ago (it comes on the cover CD). In fact, it was one of the first VSTi's I used when I first started using Logic. Since then I've become a VSTi junkie (as so many have), and have used just about every one out there. But I probably used this one more often than any others in my songs and most likely still would had I not purchased the Tau Pro.
NO, IT DOSEN'T SOUND JUST LIKE A 303! But I don't ever recall the 303 being given away for free. And with a little bit of properly applied effects it can do a heck of a lot.
That pretty much covers the pros as far as cons the only real one is the lack of presets. Not that big of a deal, especialy since it's so darn easy to use.
