PeakPRO WAS a great program, 9/10, and I had used it extensively for audio editing and CD mastering. It all came to a crashing halt in 2012.

A major upgrade of PeakPRO was slated to come out years ago, and I even pre-paid for the next version (which promised multitrack editing which would have made it a 10/10- since this was based on the old-fashioned two track editing Soundedit16/SoundDesigner model), but the company "ceased operations" suddenly with no warning. I even called and talked to some folks, as well as emailed them and got borderline rude responses assuring me it was going to happen (it had been delayed for almost a year).

I'm not entirely sure WHAT the hell happened, but there were many rumors about fraud and financial skimming, inter-office-affairs, sex with dead animals, etc, so one cannot be sure what they read is true (a disease of our current times, for sure).

If you are interested in this program, it no longer is being developed and distributed. Although if you can get your hands on a free copy, and codes, it does still work- I am using it on El Not-Work-itan, with a few quirks. It amazes me that it still fires up. I also know that they have kept a website up for re-registering their products, which is mighty "big" of them.

http://www.bias-inc.com.

As for the chunk of change they owe me, I'll probably never get it back. Its on their conscience- which must be heavy since they completely abandoned their users. Such is the warning tale of a once cool company gone completely sour.

Rogue Amoeba is an awesome company.

I have most of their cool products, and use most of them often. I have had Audio Hijack since its baby days, and have watched it grow into a full featured, mature program. I was used to the older interface, honestly, so the newer interface threw me for a loop for a while- I kept using the older one because it looked more familiar, and I knew where everything was. There newer interface, while taking some getting used to, seems to make sense. It didn't feel like a huge improvement from the previous version, so that's why it only got a 9/10 for me. The previous version was a 10/10. For that price, for what it does, its practically a steal.

I use it quite often for recording from my tape machine, or sometimes simply recording sound-design/manipulation sessions. It is really a very useful program.

I tested recording a bunch of different sources at once, and it worked (essentially a multi-track recorder) but I really wouldn't use it that way. Still, its useful if I am trying to capture an interview and Skype etc. I've used it to strip audio from streams (to manipulate), and for recording interviews. But, the sound-play/manipulation is the funnest- just let it go while you have fun.

The key here is if I have an idea, its fast to set up and record. On many of the DAWs I will spend a ton of time pulling up templates, checking inputs and outputs, etc. By the time I have all that, the idea might be fading away...I could record it on any number of other devices, but this just works for me. Then I can send the sound file to wherever to work more on it.

Check this company out, I've only had good experiences with the support, as well.

There are really very few programs I would give a "10" to. I have been using this program for many years- since their beginning, really. For a person who does sound manipulation, it is really powerful, and extremely useful. Its a bit like a swiss army knife for your sounds. I have many many thousands of sounds, and it allows you to set up scans of your HDs for specific sound sets, and the ability to process sounds non-destructively is golden. The interface at first may take a little getting used to, but it makes sense.

CHECK it out, folks. Worth every penny!!! :-)

(No, I am not affiliated with them at all...just love it).
