Loopscape

Loopscape is a tape-loop based synthesiser inspired by experimental musical pioneers of the 60s and 70s like Brian Eno. Eno created ambient music by combining tape loops of different lengths to create non-repeating, infinitely-varying compositions. Loopscape takes that concept and turns it into a synthesiser.

"With three loops combined, the result is a lush and dense synthesiser sound, evolving and transforming constantly... it's incredible." – Film & Game Composers review

This creation and its companion Loopscape Vinyl are becoming essential in my studio. They provide a lovely patina to anything that might be too shiny. Perfect for a bit of background, they can stand on their own in the foreground too. I find myself trancing out with these as they provide a perfect soundtrack to late night experimentation. The level of tweakability makes it easy to come up with a fresh vibe every time.

It's as if the Professor and Mongo are circuit-bending the very fabric of spacetime itself. They went from 'I want this' to 'My perfect studio' in to time at all.

Plectrum

Plectrum V2 contains the Kontakt Player engine along with the 12GB Plectrum sound library.

Much more than a tool or content library, Plectrum is a creative work of instrument design. Gee created his instruments from sounds made by plucking, strumming, tapping, scraping, and flicking a range of stringed instruments and found objects. Collecting thousands of full length high resolution samples, he voiced and tuned the sounds into full-range, expressive keyboard instruments.

Loopscape Vinyl

Loopscape Vinyl is a loop-based synthesiser inspired by experimental musical pioneers of the 60s and 70s like Brian Eno. Eno created ambient music by combining tape loops of different lengths to create non-repeating, infinitely-varying compositions. With our original Loopscape, we took that concept and turned it into a tape-loop-based synthesiser. Loopscape Vinyl applies the same process to deliberately-aged custom-pressed vinyl records instead of vintage tape loops.

I'm impressed. Gimmickry aside, this is a quirky, analog-sounding VSTi that is capable of creating strange, imperfect but instantly useful sounds. And it's cheap. I guess they could add a few more loop sounds but considering the price, it's kinda great as-is.

Jennings

JENNINGS is a Kontakt software version of an early all-valve synthesiser designed in 1946. The original Jennings Univox was played by the Beatles during their early sets at the Cavern in Liverpool, and by the Tornadoes, who used it to create the signature synth sound of their 1962 synth-pop hit Telstar. It was designed by Tom Jennings who went on to form Vox amplifiers, and comprised a valve-based oscillator which could be run through a series of wave shapers, filters and EQs controlled by tab switches on its front panel, capable of creating over 2000 variations on the basic waveform. Vibrato added movement to the sound, while a knee lever controlling volume allowed the player to manage swells and tremolo wobbles in real time. The sound was output through a dedicated speaker cabinet into which the keyboard packed for transportation, making it a real alternative to other more cumbersome valve-based synthesisers like the Hammond Novachord for gigging bands. The Jennings Univox was similar to the Clavioline, another valve-based portable synth, but differed in its use of a sawtooth variant as its source waveform where the Clavioline used a square-wave variant. It is this valve-based sawtooth, rich in harmonic overtones and minor valve instabilities, that gave the Univox its uniquely warm analogue sound.
