I wish i could find the TS-404 before it was ruined where there is no way to gate it or use it anymore in terms of the one built-into FL Studio. Amazingly this is still one of the best sounding soft-synths I ever heard even though its from 1999

The 1999 stand alone EXE is still here: http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/ts-404.shtml

the thing about it is the built in distortion and the filter of it sound better than 95% of all VSTi's Ive ever heard. if that exe could only just be a VST DLL . I can show you what i mean if i save .pat files for the exe. Can you also hear how good its filter is?

Here this loads an auto-starting embedded player without need to DL or press any buttons. This is from the 1999 stand-alone TS-404. This will bring back some old school nostalgia for people who used FL when it was Fruityloops or got this stand alone. This is all the 1999 standalone LOL, the distortion is built-in so is that little delay

This thread alone proves that there will be such a thing as "vintage plugin effects". It also proves that it's all about nostalgia.

The original TS-404 like many others of that day, sounds absolutely horrible to my ears. I always thought it sounded horrible.. back then I had a fair share of hardware though so I had a lot to compare with. So there's that.

You SERIOUSLY think that sounds good? :scared:

I do...

That synth had an interesting character to me. Harsh, yet thick digital sound... not the hollow wavetable sound, but analog if analog was digital and being overdriven... :hihi:

kidding, to each there own. i think it sounds horrible but if you like it that's great, if everyone's tastes, opinions, ideas were all exactly the same life would be booooring.

but still, really? you like it?

its a good synth but i didnt do anything but press the random pattern button and thats the pattern i got on first hit of random, and only uploaded 2 very old goa like sounds. it doesnt have as much use today but it can make subtler simple subtractive sounds heavily effected as soft background sounds in some genres of today

really the quick uploading of one crazy distorted one doesnt show it but it was a nolstalgia thing when we used to like to do that sort of thing on fruit loops 1.5 to 2ish

thats the kind of thing we'd do back in 1999 on fruityloops, goa type lines :hihi:

and yes that was the point, how unique its filter is for a digital plugin

the more capible plugin synth probably most similar to it is the Novation V-Station

^ you had me at Goa

If TS-404 is not good enough maybe try TS-808 instead (which actually sounds quite good to me).

The TS404 became Wasp...then Wasp V then Wasp XT

Sounds much better now....

And WASP XT morphed in to DUNE

There is something wrong with the TS-404 built into FL?
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Oh, the memories of Buzz-tracker  .. That mp3 sounded exactly like what you could do with that software.

Yeah i know this is a really old and Nostalgic topic, but like in 2003 i think it was, they removed the gate fuction and the made it so it doesnt respond right to sequencing, it will only sound according to its envelope and you cant make notes sound the length of the note in the piano roll.

It has to do with not being able to control the notes except with its internal envelope so it either has this long sustain/release, or short bursts that have a steep decay, and is all ruined.

Old topic, just happen to think of the old 404 and download the standalone before i made this thread

Post

I liked it also.
