Hive is a lovely synth, easy to program and great on the CPU. Julian Ray's Hive Mind showcases a lovely set of sounds that are not geared towards EDM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89RbzriYlHw
I don't see the download at Julian's website anymore but you can get 20 or so patches at https://www.u-he.com/PatchLib/hive.html

Sylenth is a lovely synth, easy to program and great on the CPU. Joseph Hollo Goldmine showcases a lovely set of sounds that are not geared towards EDM

This Joseph Hollo sounds for Sylenth are more my cup of tea. Sylenth sounds for me better (only while listening to some of this audio demos). It has a brighter more "energetic" sound and cuts very well through the mix. Amazing stuff (not only for EDM).

Hehehe, another one of those
My opinion: Those who prefer Sylenth1 sound-wise would prefer it over Hive even if we added a 4th engine that sounds exactly like Sylenth1. Those who prefer Sylenth1 feature-wise would still prefer it over Hive even if we demonstrated that Hive can do 99% of Sylenth1's factory presets while Sylenth1 can only do 60% or less of Hive's. Those who prefer Sylenth1 design-wise over Hive would still prefer it over Hive if we added a UI skin that looks exactly like Sylenth1. Those who prefer Sylenth1 CPU-wise over Hive would still prefer it over Hive if we added proved that all similar patches use almost exactly the same CPU.
In other words, I don't think there's a need to compare the two for objective matters. It's merely a question of taste and what people are used to.

So, you do prefer Sylenth1 over Hive for *something* and you would prefer Hive if we "fixed" that *something*?toothnclaw wrote:No.Urs wrote:Hehehe, another one of those

Listening to those two videos on my headphones demonstrates the different sound character very well, independently of the much better sound design and musical taste/skills displayed in the Sylenth video (the second half of the Sylenth video sounds awesome). The Hive sound just doesn't touch me, it sounds somehow bland to me, no matter how much reverb and other effects they drown it in, like in that video.
Ideally the two synths would fuse, the sound of Sylenth and the features of Hive

We had total of about 40 license transfers for Hive since it came out. That's less than 1/100th of its user base. If anything, it's an indicator that people are very happy with it.fluffy_little_something wrote:Yes, frequently here on KVR

I agree, there is a difference in the sound design skills. This Joseph Hollo stuff sounds a lot better (also his Hive demo/presets are very good).
