I think Blue3 is great. I don't know if I need another organ but I gotta say, this thing has everything but the kitchen sink in it. I have never seen an organ emulation in this much detail before.GG Audio wrote:Hello everyone,
Thank you for the kind comments about Blue3.
Some of you have commented about the key contact closure timing...hearing each tonewheel turn on in succession at low velocities. Unfortunately MIDI velocity is not very consistent between different keyboards so this might sound a bit too extreme on some. This will be addressed shortly.
I'll also be looking into an insert FX loop in the not too distant future as well.
Sorry about the lack of jazz demo songs on the website. We're trying to correct that. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to contribute something.
And concerning the name, Blue3: I really had no idea that there was a plugin called BlueII until a beta tester mentioned it well into the beta process. Designs and artwork had already completed and we were just in the tweaking stage. Unfortunately I didn't do any real market research into anything besides B3 simulations. I certainly apologize to anyone who was confused by the name, it was ABSOLUTELY not my intention. I sent a note to Rob Papen apologizing for the confusion. He was extremely gracious and said that the products were so different that he had no problem with it and then wished me much success with Blue3.
Thanks again for all the kind comments.

I compared Blue3 with VB3 and the clear winner to me is: VB3
VB3 sounds fuller and warmer. Blue3 doesn't sound bad, but compared to VB3 it sounds more digital, artificial.

Blue3 has been updated to 1.00.1.
• Doesn't steal keyboard Return/Enter keys inside DAWs any more
• Added Contact Timing control in Options menu
The Contact Timing control should address issues where it key closure sounds too extreme at low MIDI velocities.
Thank you.

For me the biggest letdown of VB3 is that stuff like Global Tuning, Type, Leakage Level, Tonewheel Scaling, Perc. Decay/Level, Wind Noise, Speaker Type, Scanner depth etc. etc. are all stored globally.Kees49 wrote:I compared Blue3 with VB3 and the clear winner to me is: VB3

In other words, if you change those for one song, they will change for any song you made or will make, since they are not stored in a preset (and thus DAW project).

Well, for me and also others GSI VB-3 is a kind of "reference" for Hammond emulatiions so one question for me was if Blue3 could be a direct replacement or not. At least sound wise this does not really seem to be the case but Blue3 is a really nice plugin on it's own with lots of tweaking options so it might be worth to have both VB-3 and Blue3 (as i already tried to explain above).chris.r wrote:I could swear I read somewhere Blue3 was meant to be a real B-3 replacementIngonator wrote:While i still love the sound of VB-3 as it is Blue3 might be a very nice addition instead of being a replacement for VB-3. As a full VB-3 replacement (for doing similar sounds) Blue3 more or less seems to fail for me.
On the other i hand usually my focus is not really on playing organs but more with synths so another question is if i really need another organ emulation besides GSI VB-3 (that i got for a long time now), the organs in Arturia V-Collection 5 (like e.g. B-3 V) and the sampled ones in NI Komplete 10.
In that respect the fact that Blue3 could produce sounds different to those plugins just mentioned is more an advantage than a disadvantage so it could still make sense to get Blue3 and still use the others too.

my impression of Blue3, I'm impressed. I do think VB3 sounds a little warmer. However, VB3 hasn't been updated in ages, its still 32bit, requiring me to use 32 Lives to run it. Some of the things mentioned about global settings are absolutely true and VB3 simply has not gotten the updating love it needs to get, as GSi has moved on to creating hardware rather then keeping VB3 updated and upgraded. On that note, Blue3 is looking very good in terms of the complete programming present, the controller configuration screen...etc..this is a very full featured organ, with a breadth of sound and it sounds darn good.
I think people that already own a good organ will not really see a big reason to buy another one. I don't. But on the other hand I have to say this is a serious contender rolling forward.

I was only making fun on my first thought when reading this while I was still sleepy Both are great instruments and very different at the same time.Ingonator wrote:Well, for me and also others GSI VB-3 is a kind of "reference" for Hammond emulatiions so one question for me was if Blue3 could be a direct replacement or not. I needed couple of days to discover the beast inside Blue3. The first presets gave me wrong impression but when I reset all settings and started with some basic sound like I did on a A100 Hammond one day, suddenly it came up with that familiar sound, especially when using the 'Custom' leslie. That was a blast! That's the first and only rotary sim that gives me satisfaction

Love the new contact timing option. My issue with the clicking when in Front Stop mode is gone too (though it doesn't sound like it's stopping at the front, rather to the right).GG Audio wrote:Blue3 has been updated to 1.00.1.

Yep, that's a huge problem with VB3. Totally breaks the paradigm.daw.one wrote:For me the biggest letdown of VB3 is that stuff like Global Tuning, Type, Leakage Level, Tonewheel Scaling, Perc. Some of the sounds that can be dragged out of this plugin are huge! It takes some tweaking, but stick with it and you won't be disappointed. Absolutally up there with VB3 imho. Doesn't sound digital at all, just sounds great.

Todd the Trademark Attorney here - after prosecuting and enforcing trademarks worldwide for 27 years (Former U.S. Trademark Examining Attorney, I've unfortunately dealt with trademark infringement cases where I felt "this is the most incredible waste of time for both parties and that my job is absolutely ridiculous.
While there was some "initial interest confusion" regarding use of BLUE for a plugin, there are an extensive number of marks containing "Blue" or phonetic equivalents, to demonstrate that the term Blue is entitles to a narrow scope of protection. In other words, no likelihood of confusion and thus, no actionable trademark infringement.
GG and RP made the rational business decision to not get lawyers involved, discuss the issue CEO to CEO and come to a mutual, reasonable co-existence.
Btw - i bought BLUE3 last night after 10 minutes of playing the demo. I also have the usual suspects, as well as a real C-3 and L-100, and BLUE3 has the tone that works for my Prog Rock music.

I had used VB3 for quite awhile, but since it has essentially become abandonware for Mac I was looking for a decent B3 software solution. My initial impressions of Blue 3 are very favorable, and I actually love the blue skin vs the "wood" look (what's that called, aneurpor-something or other graphic design?).
