I was thinking of going with eastwest subscription plan. It looks good but I don't know if it will do jazz/pop brass. Anyone know?

If jazz is your thing, it might be worth waiting for the sales and go for ProjectSam's Swing. Its a Kontakt Player library so you won't need the full version of Kontakt.Matthewrymarz wrote:I was thinking of going with eastwest subscription plan. How about Blue Street Brass - it's only $79:

(edit -- ah, I didn't notice you don't have Kontakt)

I have session horns and its easy to use, to add spicy flavour in no time. But you cant solo instruments, at least not in kontakt player (you can add another instance, invert phase and mask out certain instruments, but its far from practical). More importantly, there are no keyswitches, one instance, one articulation.
I was very disappointed by this library in terms of ergonomy, but the sound kinda makes up for it.
Sample modelling trombone is awesome, more expensive, and will require more effort. For example, you cannot play chords, you have to set up each trombone player as in a real orchestra. (and the results are great). And it works with kontakt player.

Can't you route each instrument and just solo the output in kontakt?

As far as im aware, with session horn(basic) in kontakt player, no. At best you can use only two instruments per instance. In session horns you have 1 trombone, 1 sax and two trumpets, you can choose something like 8 combinations maybe (1 trombone+ sax, 2 trumpets only etc) but no less than two, then they all get routed to the same output.Matthewrymarz wrote:Can't you route each instrument and just solo the output in kontakt?
If you setup one instance with 3 instruments, then add another instance with only 2, add absolutely no effects and mirror phase, you can kindof solo an instrument but its not practical AT ALL(round robin might interfere), and the result is sub par.
Maybe there is a way to solo but i havent found it yet.
Not to say session horns is bad, because i like its sound as quartet anyway. I used it quite a lot.
Just be aware that you cant solo instruments. (maybe in pro or regular kontakt, which is more than 200$ to begin with)
