Want to try out your skills in other contests / competitions /challenges?
  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Skio Music Contests - Lots of remixes you can join (Mostly EDM) - big prizes.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

Looking forward to this one! I know there are lots of presets that come with Thorn, but here are some more that I created. Help yourself.

Question: I have created a couple of tunes already using mostly Thorn. If I changed the non-Thorn parts to be Thorn, could I submit one of them, or does a tune have to be started during the competition time?

**** NOTE: SOME OF THESE PRESETS CONTAIN CUSTOM SAMPLES - DON'T USE THOSE PRESETS IN THIS COMPETITION AS CUSTOM SAMPLES ARE NOT ALLOWED. ****

Cheers

It has to be a new, fresh tune for the month. And no covers. :tu:

Hahah, you got me :)

Thanks, a new tune it will be.

This round will be really fun! Such a sophisticated synth :tu:

Nice! Thorn is on my "need to demo this when I have time" list, so this is a perfect opportunity to do so :)

Puuuhhh, that thing scared me for a moment. I chose a pad as first preset listen and it had a very long tail, making me think that it idles at 37% cpu usage with a single instance, hahahaha. But, alas, no...it idles at the common 10%-12% on my machine. But a single sound- like this pad I chose- went right up to around 40% with a few notes played. So...that could get intense! :scared: :ud:

Sounds very interesting, though. With all the signal post processing happening internally it kind of lands in its own type of spectrum somehow. Clean in a frozen, but not sterile way. So...yeah...I'm very curious how this month will turn out. I should strongly consider dub step, I think, hahaha! 8)

Thanks to Dmitry for letting us give it a shot! :tu: :hyper:

Failure is success in progress.

Last competition done and the next knocks on the door.
Great I love Thorn. The demo I have had tested days ago was very good. I'm very curious about the entry from all of you.

It's quite funny as this really reminds me of a musical evolution of Zebralette. Conceptually familiar, but sound and control on a next level in many respects. I'm super impressed right now about how organic and beautiful the sounds get so very quickly. Thanks to the familiarity with Zebralette, names of features and parameters are immediately clear. I haven't yet found a "zoom" function in the MSEG portion, but other than that it is very beautiful in terms of access.
To think that I started playing with it about a few hours ago and already feel such a nice level of control... yet, there surely is far more to discover.
Man, hats off to Dmitry for his musical intuition. This is clearly more than engineering, though, it's already a wonderful engineering achievement. It's always a bit dangerous, when ever I get excited too quickly and write about it right away, but... pretty freaking cool! 8)

This should be interesting. Most of my music tends to be more lyrical/analog, so it will be fun to see where this goes with a synth more targeted toward emp.

Despite the meager nature of my submission last month, I learned more doing the OSC than I have in months of tinkering. Limiting oneself to a small box of tools, far from constricting one's creativity, expands it where it matters most: in oneself.

Post

Ahh trial. No thank you. :P Skipping this round. But I will be here to listen and vote. Good luck.

Woooot, Trojak!? I believe, this would be a real pity, because you could do quite a bit more with this one, really. :|
I think, you should reconsider or at least take a look. It won't hurt! ;)

And, teilo, despite what I had said earlier, this synth can be tremendously lyrical. In fact, that's what impressed me after a bit of playing around with it. Very elegant, soft and deep sounds with great subtlety. You can modulate the harmonize section, creating these beautifully full bodies...it's quite amazing.

So, no need to stray from your musical preferences! :hyper:
