Yep, you're right on both counts.

The categorisation is slightly more refined. It tries to find specific words in the name, but in some cases is does get it wrong (e.g in "Vibra" category, it finds "Vibratrance", which isn't an acoustic match). The "Arpeggio" category, however, uses the patch parameter to actually detect real arpeggio patches.

When you manually categorise patches, the librarian will remember those when you rebuild your library. That way you don't lose the hard work you put in (I just implemented that in the latest version).

1) Create a temp folder somewhere
2) Copy, say, 10 zip files into that folder (doesn't matter which files)
3) Tell Synth1 Librarian to use the temp folder, instead of your real zipbank folder
4) Build the library

If those patches import correctly, keep trying the other zip files in similar way. Eventually you'll find the zip file that causes the problem.
If it doesn't work, PM me, and we'll try to work it out.

YES ! It worked : ) . And big thank you for this , this is fantastic !

It doesn't seem to do it for the mono-category. :wink:

Can I adjust the name matching rules? For example my Plucks are starting with [PLC], but it detects "pluck" only.

Ah, I knew someone would ask to tweak the name matching rules, but I didn't expect the request this soon!
I don't have that feature in the UI - it's on the TODO list. But... if you're feeling adventurous:

1) Using Explorer, open the folder %APPDATA%\Synth1.Librarian.64.net
2) Using a text editor (eg Notepad) open the file categoryFilters.json
3) Look for a section that resembles this:

Code: Select all

      "Name": "Pluck",
      "InclusionWords": [
        "Pluck",
        ...
      ],
4) Add an entry for PLC, so you end up with this:

Code: Select all

      "Name": "Pluck",
      "InclusionWords": [
        "PLC",
        "Pluck",
        ...
      ],
5) Save the file, then restart your DAW (this forces the Librarian to reload the filters file)
6) Rebuild your library

I suggest you take a backup of the categoryFilters.json first, just in case you need to revert back.

Cool, thanks. Will try.

EDIT: okay, worked. Adding a new category "Analog" did not work.

Some changes I did:

Category ARP: Excluded Odyssey, Excluded 2600
Category Lead: Excluded LT, Included SYNC
Category Distortion: Included Overdrive
Category Bell: Included Glocke
Category Pluck: Included PLC

Thank you very much for that great tool.
Maybe a stupid question but how do I save new patches now ?
They don't show up.

At this time, Synth1 Librarian works exclusively from the zipbank folder. I guess you're saving your patches to your soundbank folders? Unfortunately, the Librarian won't see them if that's the case.

As a workaround, you could save your soundbanks as individual zip files, then rebuild your library. Check out my answer to a similar question here:https://neutrinosky.com/2018/01/18/conf ... irst-time/

Just wanted to say thanks for this! Got it working here. Very nice! :tu:

I have always wanted a better way to audition and organize the patches for this synth. There are so many killer sounds for it, and so much easier to find now! :clap:

Thanks, much appreciated. :-D You say 'got it working' - was it tricky to install/configure? If so, I'd like to hear about it, and I'll see if I can improve the process in some way.

Do you have tips for faster starting up /scanning synth1/patch librarian.
It does take some time to load, but I think this is because of synth1 itself because of the huge amount of zipbanks I have.
I have read of settings in the security systems and the synth1 temp folder. (I think Ccleaner is deleting them for example).
Could you confirm this , give a tip how to prevent deleting the temp file or similar tips ?
I'm sure it is not your tool, just behaviour of synth1 btw.

I tried the manual install first, but kept getting .net errors on scanning the VST, so then i gave in and used the automatic installer.

Success, almost, since that appears to have taken care of any dependencies...

The scan now worked, but I couldn't 'Show Synth1' UI from within the librarian, even after setting the 'Synth1 DLL File' path correctly in Library settings.

Then I found that the folder 'Neutrino Sky' had been installed to another VST folder (I have several) that did not contain Synth1, but was in a valid scan location for my DAW, so my DAW found it OK, but somehow the Synth1 Librarian could not make a proper connection.

So I just moved the folder 'Neutrino Sky' into my Synth1 VST folder, and then everything works nicely!

You could add %TMP%\synth1\zip to CCleaner's exclude list. Do you have CCleaner running regularly? I tend to only cleanup my Temp folder occasionally.

I know that Synth1 Librarian takes some time to startup. I tried to reduce that time, by making only the first instance load the entire library. Other instances of the Librarian then 'talk' to the first instance, so that they don't have to reload the library.

Other stuff: if you're on an SSD, make sure you've got 20% free disk space (otherwise the SSD writes slow down). If you're on a HDD, you could try defragging the drive. You could even create a new partition, purely as a temp drive, and relocate your TMP and TEMP variables to point to it - but that's probably a step too far...

I have all of my VSTs, including Synth1 and Synth1 Librarian stored on my SSD. Only the ZIP folder with the patches is stored on a secondary HDD, where I keep most of my sample libraries.

I am finding the start up and use of the librarian on my setup to be very light and responsive, as far as loading the plugin and browsing/loading patches. The first run of the "Build" function took a minute or so, but that would be expected.

Ive only just found and explored this today. This has really opened up Synth1 for me personally. Had it for years and never taken the time to explore all the zip files Ive had stowed away. Finally got them all sorted and your plugin simply makes Synth1 so much more accessible.

Great work, really great. Thank you.
