  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Skio Music Contests - Lots of remixes you can join (Mostly EDM) - big prizes.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

A two (2) operator FM synth "monster".
Might be feasable to throw a random generator at the parameters and have still an underwhelming number of presets.
As pitch bend is only fixed at 1 semitone, I am out...

Though, can we tweak the source? Would this still be within the rules?

A real challenge...

Oh man that's funny. Where do you draw the line??

If you post the plugin, that would be pretty cool actually. The problem is that there's a rabit hole that can cause months to evaporate. By the time you have a functional build people might be finished with their tracks, making it unfair.

Might as well use SynthMaker for the OSC. :D

More importantly, I wasn't allowed to play Duke Nukem. :cry: 8)

Thinking about it, I would probably just implement MPE, but I have no experience yet in working with Juce. Of course I would share the code...
The Mac version is one behind anyway.
When you download the sources, you get a bunch of presets on top of the "facory sounds"
Pretty noisy stuff... OPL was back then the cheapest you could get, I guess more likely 8-bit resolution...
Are we allowed to use noise reduction? ; - )

Yeah, lotsa hissy noise! I'm sure things would sound a lot better once the noise was removed ... ReaFir, or my external audio editor, popping in and out of reaper?

Gonna be an interesting round for sure... with only 1 semitone pb, no screaming guitar solos I guess!

I guess it's not ok to modify the source so I can have 12 semitones pitchbend ? :-p

https://github.com/bsutherland/JuceOPLV ... #L809-L813

Code: Select all

	else if (midi_message.isPitchWheel()) {
			int bend = midi_message.getPitchWheelValue() - 0x2000;	// range -8192 to 8191
			// 1.05946309436 == (2^(1/1200))^100 == 1 semitone == 100 cents
			currentScaledBend = 1.0f + bend * .05775f / 8192;
applyPitchBend();

Subtracting a noise profile with ReaFir can be extremely effective in some cases. Not always, though.

I was very surprised, laying down leads in a session a few days ago through my noisy cranked marshall. Toggling bypass on ReaFir during the actual performance sounded beautifully transparent, though a properly tuned gate is the usual choice.

Gates seem to work well with this synth for percussion, and it practically begs for eq. Initially, I'm finding it very strange to work with, but maybe it's this mind bending delirium caused by being awake for 30 hours, after grappling with my last entry. :drunk: :lol:
