Really ?

I asked about Zebra 2, but as you can see from the responses the question is actually more general than that.

I like synthesizer induced brain overload! I also like to read manuals and experiment, and deconstruct complicated patches.

Zebra is one of (if not the) only softsynths that i don’t own but wish i did. Unfortunately finances do not reach far enough right now.

It was answered, and he didn't replied. We weren't even sure if he meant 15 BPM or 15Hz. In both cases, these are parameters not used in music, anyway. As it was explained, anything slower than like 20 BPM would be felt like some kind of drone (no more rhythmic sense) unless we were using very short rhythmic figures like 128th notes or something. Anyway, I tried it at 15 BPM, with a pre-recorded piece which is supposed to be played much faster, and didn't notice anything weird in the oscillators (used the default patch).

So, he was probably referring to 15Hz, which is absurd because, as explained in the other thread, those are subsonic frequencies, that are not heard anymore. So, not sure what he meant exactly with that post.

This is the Instruments forum... and Zebra 2 is an instrument... just like lots of the instruments that are talked about in the Instruments forum...

And the irony is that one of Z2's biggest proponents, and certainly probably the most famous one Hans Zimmer, said that he rented out a cinema for a day and played different synths to hear how their low end sounded on those massive speakers (among other things) and the only software synths that didn't break up was Zebra....
Or we can just take bbtr's word instead.

edit: and I totally misquoted him..... but some of the essence was indeed in what he said.

Zebras have a vegetarian diet and spend their lives in quiet contemplation. Their brains never overload. Sometimes a lion gives chase, and it's a welcome break from the Zebra's meditative stance, as it gallops through the savannah...we need to learn from the Zebra Too.

It's odd that so little audio software supports linux. It's really taken off on the video side, everything from 3d rendering to editing now happens on linux, it's odd that audio hasn't done the same. I'm talking professional level ... still the Adobe's of the world ignore it, but the high end stuff is happening on linux.

I can't imagine how much better Zebra will be in in version 3, it's a bit mind boggling. :tu:

I'm not surprised. The entire music industry is a loss leader for other industries. If everyone is having to squeeze money out of a stone, it doesn't make sense to spread limited resources thin.
