Hello,
Questions before buying Omnisphere 2.
I compose electronic music (Trance).
I already have as VST Nexus 2, Avenger, Synthmaster 2.9, Hive, Spire, Serum.
Is it useful considering the other vst, to buy Ominsphere 2?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

What you hope to find in Omnisphere 2? You have already a nice collection of synths in your arsenal.

No, Omnisphere isn't really going to give you anything worthwhile for trance considering what you already got, you are better off just buying few nice trance sound banks for synths you have.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? ShawnG

I'm a huge Omni 2 fan. If you just want it for trance, I agree - no point in buying it given what you have. It would be like buying a Boeing Dreamliner because you like the TV screens in the back of the seats.

Why not program synths like Trance artists themselves did with their limited equipment in the 1990s? Can be a lot of fun.

Omnisphere is loaded with sounds and presets. I like the updated browser and the random preset options.
IMO... version 2 should have been an update

Yeah, for 500 bucks he can get hold on JP 8000/8080 and have tons of fun programing that thing.Etienne1973 wrote:Why not program synths like Trance artists themselves did with their limited equipment in the 1990s? Can be a lot of fun.

Hello,
A very big thank you for your answers.
Etienne1973
And a search for its more organic, Omnisphere seems to have richer sounds, for example the pads, more ample, warm, deep, more alive, less artificial. Omnisphere with all the effects on board, the arpeggiator, really looks very complete and very versatile. The reason for my questioning about the relevance of omnisphere 2 as a purchase.
Etienne1973 /Zexila /noiseboyuk
You answer the question of the usefulness of this purchase, ie not essential. Thank you very much.
Zexila / djmino02
Indeed an excellent idea and already thought.
The concern, this kind of machine is a concern for maintenance and spare parts. why not take this option and hardware solution. But only software.

In your opinion,
Given the current set of vst, what do I miss it like Vst to enrich the sound.
A vst that stands out by these specific features.
I was thinking of BT PHOBOS, a very particular sound universe that could complement the current vst.

This reminds me of the "show your thinking" answer that a kid made on his test.Elektronisch wrote:Im curious, what makes you think this way?Zexila wrote:No, Omnisphere isn't really going to give you anything worthwhile for trance considering what you already got, you are better off just buying few nice trance sound banks for synths you have.

Omnisphere 2 is my most used synth. Given what you have, for Trance, you don't need it.

Ok really, guys you are being offensive here, and to say something like"Given what you have, for Trance, you don't need it." is the least ignorant if not absurd answer. Its same like saying, oh for orchestra music you only need string instruments, thats it. You probably dont even imagine how wide and versitile the genre is. I dont want to be offensive but you clearly dont know this genre and probbably heard only Robert Miles Children.wagtunes wrote:Omnisphere 2 is my most used synth. To topic creator, dont listen to the guys, they dont know what they are talking about or have knowledge of it.
if you need omnisphere 2 is up to you, it has alot of usable bread and butter sounds that are more then suitable for trance music and much more interesting ones then some of the soft synths can offer. Its also good because it offers real instruments that are also quite used in trance music from choirs (that sound better then nexus) to string instruments and solo vocals. Along that alot of amazing pads, textures, fx sounds that very suitable for the genre.

Other synth he got cover everything Omnisphere has to offer and more, especially concerning given genre of interest, Omnisphere will not deliver anything new, not for that price tag, but if he have money to burn, than it's just another brush I guess. I was making psytrance before if that counts and listening to trance music long before that, if that counts for anything, again, what's your so big expertise in the genre?Elektronisch wrote:

That's mostly good sound design, as it happens most banks for synths are for festival EDM and some trance ones get pretty generic and uninspiring too, but folks like Aiyn Zahev always deliver quality and versatility:Trancer wrote:And a search for its more organic, Omnisphere seems to have richer sounds, for example the pads, more ample, warm, deep, more alive, less artificial. You are essentially covered, but if you want to add another synth to your arsenal that have that deep/warm/organic flavor you seek and delivers for trance all the way, it's Diva by U He, there's even pretty dead on JP 8000/8080 oscillator emulation as part of it, also some of the best sound banks are made for it by the likes of Aiyn Zahev, Arksun, Luftrum, Joseph Hollo, The Unfinished and more:

There is a big difference between "you don't need it" and "it won't give you anything useful."Elektronisch wrote:Ok really, guys you are being offensive here, and to say something like"Given what you have, for Trance, you don't need it." is the least ignorant if not absurd answer. Of course you can use Omnisphere for trance. In fact, if you wanted to, you could throw everything else you have away and just keep Omnisphere and do trance.
But it's 500 freaking dollars. Given what he already has, it is total overkill to spend that kind of money on a synth to make trance sounds. If he owned nothing at all and asked for a synth that can cover just about anything, I'd say Omnsiphere hands down and that would be the end of it. But he has more than enough already to do a decent trance track. The additional $500 is not going to give him $500 more in trance capability. Not with what he already has.
Let me put it this way. If all I did was trance and had the synths he already had, no way in hell would I spend $500 on another synth that will give me marginally more use for the genre.
But hey, you're obviously a bigger Omnisphere fanboi than I am (I did say it was my most used synth) and it's his money, so hell, I don't personally care what he does. But I wouldn't be surprised if he had big time buyer's remorse after getting it. Because he's not going to get $500 worth of use out of it just to do trance.
And with that, I am truly done with this thread because I really don't give a crap what he does.
Life is too short to argue about this stuff.
