Just to narrow down the responses a bit. Not a lot came out the past year. Of the synths that did, what was the best? What was the most innovative? What was the most pleasant surprise, as in something you would have never expected?

As a side discussion, why do you think the releases were down from previous years?

Too much competition?
Not enough market share?
Everything's already been done (saturation)?
Something else?

Flow Motion for me. It's so easy to use and the snapshot sequencer is incredible and can actually make it sound like a euro rack.
But what I like most is that all the sounds it make just slice right thru a mix and still sound musical.

Ah, that's the Waves synth they just recently came out with. For whatever reason just never caught my eye. Maybe someday I'll check it out since I have so much Waves stuff already.

I think most people already interpreted the other, older thread the way your title suggests...

Yes, I just interpreted it that way, anyways my vote goes to DX7 V by Arturia as its a top notch emulation of the hardware, so instead of buying a real DX7(which was on my wants list) I bought the Keylab MKII instead because I've also been very impressed with their other offerings recently too - want them to keep going with more digital classics. They are starting to excell there.

The thing is the V6 Collection, along with the DX7, came out in 2017. Technically, it wasn't released in 2018.

If you go through the thread, you will note a number of synths named that were not released in 2018.

Waves Flow Motion and Arturia Pigments for me. I am still not completely sure how I feel about Audiaire Zone.

As per your side discussion I think the advent of more cheaper hardware is going to send money that way instead of towards purchasing Plugins. I think it must be a harder playing field these days to make something better and or more unique than the competition has already come up with. I've noticed many of these smaller Devs folding their business like One Small Clue etc. It must be harder to make a living from it otherwise they'd keep going(unless its due to other personal/health problems that they quit).

Biotek 2 and Dune 3, can't pick just one though. I haven't tried out Arturia Pigments yet so I can't add that to my short list.

Those are the only 2 synths I bought in 2018 (Biotek and Dune). Nothing else got me excited.

Curious to hear your thoughts on Biotek 2 and if it really enhance your records and music. There is something I don´t like about this instrument and I´m not sure what it is exactly.

Was Dune 3 not just an update?
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Honestly, I have too many synths and 2018 saw me using mostly sample based and physical modeling stuff so I really didn't use Biotek 2 that much. But I did enjoy programming my library for it and I did like the way it sounded.

I'm going to try to use more of my synths in 2019. Too much of what I have is going to waste.
