I'm mentioning Sound Siphon as it's a very neat implementation of the 'pipe audio anywhere' idea. It is great for recording apps and moving audio streams around and the recorder has useful widget. I'm using it with Freestyle successfully.

Looks interesting, but it's Mac only.
Maybe that's part of the reason why there isn't as much talk about it as other products?

I'm not sure..could be Soundflower? I've had it up and running for 24hours and it's not gone wrong. What's nice is you can choose to have it as an audio destination or you can 'capture' the audio without it being the output.

I worked with those core audio apps. In the end I use menubus pro. but then the dev abandoned it. There is nothing else like it for the mac. It a menu tool that lets you put a plugin chain inline with the system output. then you route all audio into it. its like Systemwide but with more flexibility. Different chains can be stored as presets. For example Studio: "--> Sonarworks --> Limiter --> out", or Headphones: "--> Morphit --> CanOpener --> Limiter --> out", etc. It also has audio splitters and recorders as utility modules. Really too bad Nathan abanonded it... he got a job at Rogue Amoeba. I've tried RA Audio Hijack but there appears to be some poor sounding SRC going on in it, or something, that sounds bad. They admit it but say they wont fix it. I think you can get Menubus from the guy's site now for free...

Had not heard of this- sadly he's not got it available on his site any more.
Rogue Ameoba do something called LoopBack which is similar but super-expensive.
I think Sound Siphon has the best features and price.

Are you talking about MenuBus Pro? You can download it from the site I posted, no? :phones:
