It looks bad enough that I don't even care how it sounds.

I like Union , has a really nice sound, but again can be a CPU hog, and I often make comparisons to Sylenth.

Is it me or are a lot of great sounding synths just not optimized in code ? Or they do things differently ?

Obviously the easiest method of comparison, is to use the good old supersaw. Union sounds great in this area, but do the same patch in both synths and see the difference. How does Lennard program a synth to be so amazing sounding, and so light on CPU ?

Off topic I know, but I do like Union, and for it's price its so good. Acsension is on the list too, to purchase.

Maybe they need to use more CPU to sound great? More oversampling, better band-limiting or whatever else it is that makes them sound better. I think the latest version of Union is a lot better than the first couple were, they seem to have done some optimisation.

Has anyone heard if they are planning to add modwheel support? Renewed sale price through June 1. Not worth it even at $8 if no modwheel support and demo still doesn't have it.

Right, because every single part in every single song you make needs to be responsive to the mod wheel. I use the Mod Wheel more than most but, until I read your post just now, I hadn't even realised it wasn't supported because I don't see Union as a lead synth, so it's never come up. But the dev's seem fairly responsive to feedback - the first version didn't have any velocity response, which is definitely something I might want to use in any part in any song - but they added that in fairly quickly and there is plenty of space alongside that for another couple of controls for mod wheel. So shoot 'em an email request if you feel strongly about it.

I did, we'll see how they respond. Maybe my perspective is skewed - it's listed as a $156 synth at Plugin Boutique. I would expect a synth priced at that level to have basic features like modwheel support so it's speaking to the quality of the company, quality of plugin and future support. Maybe Soundspot only plans to sell it at the current price forever which would make it just a dirt cheap synth with no false pretenses to being something more than it is. I'm not interested in buying a cheap plugin "it is what it is" so to speak to clutter my workspace. But if they are selling it cheap to build a user base now and have plans to build on it later, that's a different story. Glad it works for you as-is, you seem to be a strong supporter of it.

First time I've heard of a synth without it. Maybe the devs are all mouse-based musicians (or not musicians at all?). Reminds me of that other wavetable (can't remember the name now) that was released without sustain pedal support.

I've been playing synths for nearly 40 years and never needed a sustain pedal. I didn't even think it was still a thing with synths.

I just keep finding new uses for it. It is probably my most used synth over the past couple of months. It definitely has the sound quality of a $150 synth, if not the feature set, and I'll take sound quality over features every time. As for Soundspot, they definitely have a weird business model. They sell preset packs at twice the price of the synth. Union has never been anything like full price. It went up from $8 to $24 or something but then it came back down.

Here's the response:
"Thank you for contacting us, we are planning to release more future updates to include various new features to Union. I am not aware of the contents on the next update I will be sure to pass this through to our Dev Team. The more a feature is requested the more likely it will be implemented earlier rather than later.

I hope this helps and thank you for the suggestion."

I guess it is what it is - no promises but at least they "plan" to make future updates. Time will tell.

We've already had several so I am happy to take them at their word.

It sounds pretty good for that acid type of sound also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfHe3CK1MeQ

And for supersaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=195Fqcu1JhU

I have to say, I really like the visual aspect of this synth, not only how it sounds.

Yeah, I realised just today that Union is now the very first synth I reach for. In the last couple of weeks I've probably used it for a dozen different parts - basslines, pads, leads - and it always gives me what I need with a minimum of hassle. Despite that, it still doesn't excite me in the way that something like Thorn does. It's really useful but not quite inspiring. I'm not sure why.

I'm in the minority of people who actually like Soundspot, they always try to make a plugin with a unique approach on things and they release a ton of plugins. The issue before was they would just release a new plugin instead of updating an older one, but Union seems to be their baby, it was probably rushed to market, but they def plan are continually updating and adding to this thing.
