I had 8 beta and just got the latest
http://www.mutools.com/mux/beta/mux-8-2 ... st-dll.zip
I need to play back wav/mid files in sync to the DAW.
What module do I add ?

MUX will let you have audio and midi tracks if you use a sequence player module. MUX8 (which is currently in public beta) even has their new time stretch algo for it's samplers and audio sequences. Worth a check in my book, though some may consider me a fan boy of it. However it's not an optimal (nor entirely easy) use case. MUX is more synth/effect than tracker/sequencer.

FLS plugin is the only "DAW in a VST" I know of.

I'm reluctant to buy MUX since the developer told me he was reluctant to support Catalina in the future, which is a real shame as it's a great software.

If it's transport sync that you're after then no, MUX cannot do that. However, using a sequence player, you can build MIDI/Audio Sequences that can be triggered via MIDI input. Kinda like a clip launcher.

Like I said earlier, the only true "DAW as a plugin" is FLS.
Soft: Bitwig/Mulab, MUX, MXXX/MSoundFactory, Falcon, Synthmaster(One/2), Melodyne 4 Studio
Hard: Scarlett 2i2 V2, Schiit Audio Magni V3, Sennheiser HD6XX, JBL LSR 305(x2)
Comp: Ryzen 2700x, GTX 1080, 32gb ram, 1tb NVME SSD

I held on long and hard to EnergyXT, but it just couldn't keep up with my workload. I bought MuTools and got pretty deep into that, but it's audio recording/mixing capabilities were just not there, though it's kind of on par with EnergyXT in this regard. It's fast to make music, similarly to eXT

But I finally found my replacement, in the form of REAPER. It needs some tweaking out of the box to get it there (changing a few bizarre defaults, adding some familiar keyboard shortcuts, enabling "ghost clips" by default, etc) but I am now making music fast in REAPER, almost to the point of not missing EnergyXT. XT's drum sequencer is still unmatched by anything I've ever tried, but REAPER's isn't bad.

The audio editing capabilities however, blow XT completely out of the water, as well as any other DAW I've ever tried. Automation lanes can be sequenced, looped, ghosted, moved to other tracks etc., in a different but equally flexible way to XT. It's amazing. REAPER also opens in seconds and is cheap

Would love to see something happen with EXT. Massiva was the first DAW that ever ran well for me on PC and EXT 1 was pretty much a dream come true. Nothing but fond memories here.

also Usine Hollyhock early version is a DAW hat can run as a VST
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/usine-by-sensomusic
Perhaps it is not longer available but if interested you can always ask
if they will sell it to you.

I would buy Hollyhock 4 if it was available as a VST.
