Any new classic synth emus on the horizon? Moog, Arp, Obie?

Considering he would do P600 with Gligli firmware, it would have more features than Prophet-5 actually.abernathy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 1:16 amHope the OB-X is next! Is there much point in the Prophet 600 now that we have Repro-5? I really don’t know... is there much difference?EvilDragon wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:38 pm Synapse is working on Prophet-600, OB-X, and maybe at some point also a Memorymoog.

Yes, I think the arp 2600 is considered too difficult to emulate and too much of a niche product.
I would put more hope in Behringer creating a hardware clone. And at these prices I'm somewhat shifting towards hardware.
I ordered his little brother, the Odyssey. It's hard to resist at these prices and will outlast a plugin.
In 10 years time maybe all plugins I paid for will be absolete but not the hardware.

I'd love more takes on late 90's-early 00's digital synth classics. Nordleads, Viruses, Waldorfs, Novations, JP-8000, Yamaha An1x. Somewhat untapped market compared to classic analogue synths, we indeed already do have Prophets, Oberheims, Moogs and Junos of all kinds.
I know they are usually considered technically inferior to modern softsynths which doesn't necessarily make them sonically inferior.

Yep. I get really bored with those analog emus everywhere. I get it that they sell like hot cakes, but, every new iteration just makes me want to yawn out loud. IMO, we've seen enough analog emus now.

I worked with JP 8080 last week in a professionaly treated studio with high end studio monitors...recursive one wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:44 am I'd love more takes on late 90's-early 00's digital synth classics. Believe me, its no better then U-He Diva, in fact Diva sounds ALOT BETTER or any other modern software synth in that matter like Dune 3 which sounds so much better then JP8080.
Its probably nostlagia what is playing the trick.
Tho i think we already have Prophet and Moog and Junos definitive emulations. But not sure if we need Digital synth emulations because new modern synths actually already gives in most cases even more then it was offered.

Or it's the definition of "sounds better" which is different. I'm under no illusion that Diva is better in terms of analog modelling, frequency range, and anti-aliasing. Whether or not it has a more pleasing character and sounds better to you or me is a different thing though. Dune 3 is also better in terms of analog modelled filter compared to Spire. I still prefer Spire for its sound character though. So, yeah, i don't think it's really a matter of high quality bla whatever, but rather a character thing. For example, i prefer the characater of the older Waldorf synths to newer ones, even though those are superior technically.Elektronisch wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 1:03 pmI worked with JP 8080 last week in a professionaly treated studio with high end studio monitors...recursive one wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:44 am I'd love more takes on late 90's-early 00's digital synth classics. Thats the thing, i dont hear any character in JP that would stands out or would be worth while to get over the hassles related to hardware synths. Have you actually tried to program those so called "character" synths? or just played few presets? you know synths from certain time has also presets that were in trend back then. Im pretty sure thats where your "character" lies.chk071 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 1:19 pmOr it's the definition of "sounds better" which is different. And yes better is a subjective. But by better i mean, less fuzzy, fuller, more alive. And JP didnt sound any better then lets say V-Station (which isnt to say sounds bad, its great for what it is and for the year it came out). So why even bother going that road and just wasting your time for a small return or no return.

There might be copyright issues on some of these emulations, so it might be down to the original manufacturer to decide if something is worked on.
Not all of them seem to enthused about it, and some don’t even seem that interested in the upkeep of the ones they have already produced...Korg, I am looking at you...

Some people on this forum claim that Minimoogs sound bad, so well... "sounds better" is really subjective.Elektronisch wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 1:03 pmI worked with JP 8080 last week in a professionaly treated studio with high end studio monitors...recursive one wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:44 am I'd love more takes on late 90's-early 00's digital synth classics. I'm sure there would be a market for such emulations, at least the people who owned the original hardware, or are fond of certain periods of electronic music when this gear was used. I think the whole synthwave thing is purely nostalgia driven but it's a huge market.

I don't quite understand that obsession with emulations. Do people have old sysex patches to import? If not, analog synths sound pretty much all the same to me. When I want to make a synth bass sound for instance, I can do it with a Moog, Korg, Roland or whatever. The difference is too little to care about.
I actually prefer a complete original analog-style plugin to any of those precise emulations with all their deficits also copied from the original.
