If there's one thing I can tell you, reskinning Rapid isn't a rapid process, it's a rather long laborious one in fact as there so much to change and then tweak to get things to sit right when you take things several stages further into the process. A lot has changed and at this point I'm at the colour tweaking stage after about 90% has been changed with the GUI. The process in which to do all this involves script editing as well as image editing in Photoshop.

The below images are just showing you where I'm at right now but if you want to see the goal and direction / style I'm heading in, you can find some of the "pretty much finished" GUI redesign stuff such as U-HEs Hive 2.0 reskins here as well as other designs on > intrancersonic-ds

Thoroughly intrancing! Bravo!

Nice work! Really pops.

Have you looked at the older, default skins on Rapid? Horrible IMO. However, the latest one is actually very good! Not much to improve upon IMO, but I do sort of like what you're doing. Those Hive skins look pretty slick! I'll be following this thread

Looks like you like really dark skins but I'm not sure it is comfortable for eyes. The latest Rapid skin has the most comfortable colors (like default Kilohearts Phase Plant and Ableton mid-dark theme). It's a very balanced and stylish color scheme, in my opinion.

One thing that I personally would change in Rapid - knobs, and interactive modulation indicators. They don't feel precise, too bold, almost toy-like, I don't like interacting with them much :)

the default one is by far the best, but still not great, the peach/orange buttons are too bright.

New update....

Rescripting the script file is pretty much done I think...

Experimenting with new knobs which I've ported over from the Hive 2 redesign...(slightly different though with glass like look) it definitely looks different... :-D But it doesn't work well in seeing the automation which is of course different in the way Hive does it. Reverting to the previous simpler version I think.

Still thought it would be interesting to see side by side with Hive 2's redesign.

There's 192 knobs per row, trying to align them properly to a template isn't fun in photoshop.

You should not try to mess with Mikael Eidenbergs Designs. He is the king and your skins just look bad. Sorry.

Really, really sorry but... one looks pro and one looks like a toy.
No, this is a mess.
One guy once made incredibly good Rapid skins. Don't try to overcontrast like this, it looks plastic, childish, like you have only ten colours on your palette...

Post

Whats the improvement though? It's way harder to read and to orientate in it than in the default. High contrast, dark background, shiny colors, irritating.

I've not actually responded to anyone here in whether they like what I'm doing or not. At this stage, it's not really important because what some of you are looking at is essentially my sketch pad and notes of experimentation / development thread.. :-). After 12 months since I changed the design to as it is in the first screenshot, I've been happy with the changes I've made and had no issues working with it either.

I took a break to work on other GUI projects like Hive 2 reskinning (re-check that link above I gave if you've not looked in the past few days), which is a lot more fun than the chore that Rapid is as I've mentioned, but still with patience I'll get there soon enough. I'll post a new update in the next few days... I know what it's like to see someone start a project and leave it in some apparent wilderness with no conclusion.. lol.

Remember these screenshot images are wip based ( Work In Progress ) I'm freely posting, just to show how it's evolving, even if they look horrible during it, I'll post them :-).

Why am I changing the GUI, simply because I prefer using darker GUI's, in the environment I work in.

So why create a thread about it ?
