I wonder when AAS will fix the Chromaphone 3 Super-High CPU usage issue ?

I imagine the ‘fix’ will be it having lower CPU in comparison to the 3 layer sound engine of Chromaphone 4

Did they change something with the engine? I'm converting my Chrompahone 2 patches and they seem to use more cpu when played on v3.

I think so... there are now quality select buttons. But I don't know if the highest setting is better than C2.SeeingInMidi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 7:18 pm Did they change something with the engine? I'm converting my Chrompahone 2 patches and they seem to use more cpu when played on v3.

AAS is really being stupid there. So far their "cosmetic updates" didn't bother me much, since the core is still great and most of the time the new presets were worth it.
Chromaphone 3 is the first one where I think it starts to get really contra-productive. I never had performance problems with Chromaphone before, but version 3 is just too much for my machines. And why they don't split the layers over cores totally eludes me, that should be "relatively easy" to do since they are independent and don't have to wait for each other.
And for the first time ever, I didn't even get a reply to my support-inquiry when I asked them about their plans in that regard.
I probably will no longer update what I have (pretty much everything).
Saddens me a lot, actually...
Cheers,
Tom

The Super-High CPU usage of Chromaphone 3 is a big F@#$-UP by AAS.
They didn't even bother fixing it so far. No updates.

It's really bad form that they're still stuck at version v3.0.0 for both Windows and Mac and this came out October last year.Muziksculp wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 8:22 pm The Super-High CPU usage of Chromaphone 3 is a big F@#$-UP by AAS.

They said they were going to change the default no. of poly voices from 16 to 8. Did they do that and keep calling it v3.0.0 or is that not even changed?
I'm not going to do a reinstall to find out.

Where are the quality select buttons located? I'm having trouble finding it.ScrLk wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 7:50 pmI think so... there are now quality select buttons. At some point, someone said Chromaphone 3 can only use one core. Is that accurate? If so, would it take a lot of re-coding in order to make it multi-core capable?
Also, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to start from scratch. How do you initialize it?

In the Resonator module.SeeingInMidi wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 10:09 pmWhere are the quality select buttons located? In previous versions, it was called the Quality control.
"The Quality control is located just below the resonator selector and is represented by big dots."
In Chromaphone 3, it's called the Mode Density control.
"The Mode Density control is located just below the resonator selector and it allows one to adjust the number of modes taken into account in the synthesis and therefore the richness and complexity of the sound. This control has four positions, Low, Medium, High, Full, corresponding to 4, 16, 30 and 70 modes respectively. CPU usage is directly proportional to the number of modes that needs to be calculated."
There's more information about CPU usage in the FAQ - https://www.applied-acoustics.com/chromaphone-3/faq/

Yes, one core. AFAIK you will need to create your own init patch. All the factory sounds are read-only, so you'll need to "Save As" in order to edit.Dirtgrain wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 10:59 pm At some point, someone said Chromaphone 3 can only use one core. Actually it’s not that simple because Bitwig manages to split the load across more than one core so it seems to me like there’s something lurking in there that DAWs can tap into, but not all.
