It took me a bit to get up to speed with Kairatune. I got really excited about this one, then really depressed about this one, and finally a place of settled acceptance. Notwithstanding which, I'm not sure how the mix ended up so reverby, other than that apparently I kept adding insert verbs where they weren't needed. ... d-day-trip

Submission! Kinda surprised I don't see more entries actually... ... watermelon

Like described in the post, I went with a Social Network soundtrack angle, truly and amazing concept and recording. I swear that soundtrack setup the next decade at least of soundtracks. It's everywhere now. I went for what I would call the "classic" version, and not something slightly more contemporary like the Mr. Robot soundtrack.

Kairatune has some great strengths and some weaknesses for me. First, it was really easy to lose mono compatibility with some of the spread params. The only one I found I could use without sacrificing it was the osc one. Second, the EQ sounds terrible to my ear and I swear it would smear my attacks. Finally I had to bring in A1 stereo control after I made a few sounds wider with spread to set bass mid instead of side. Obvious strengths though are a wealth of pre-plugged lfos and the simple osc setup. Just twist and you'll get something interesting. Some more delicate fine tuning was required to leverage lfos on the filters, they easily got out of hand especially when added resonance. I also didn't find the beat sync envs that useful, but I'm sure someone did. Finally I feel like the core oscillators had a lot of personality. That always wins for me when deciding if I should try to pursue something in an OSC.

Reaper 6.24
49 instances, a lot for me, but I kept needed more texture, more more more!
CamelCrusher on kicks for the punch.
HeadCrusher FREE
Frontier (used this to level out a few really wild sounds)
TDR Kotelnikov
TDR Nova

I think the reason there are so many different types of compressors is because I was trying to handle slightly unruly sounds as little as possible, so I brought in eqs or compressors that I thought would do the best job per sound. It ends up being a kind of mess, but hopefully ends up sounding lightest touch in the end.

A fun little synth for sure. It has serious limitations in some aspects, but it also has features that sometimes an expensive commercial software could have. An individula control for oscillator's fundamental and it's harmonics is a sort of genius. Sometimes it is so hard to control the bass frequencies when using unison feature on the other synths, but not in this case. The sound engine itself is quite good. With the series of modulated filters and a little bit of drive you can create pretty interesting timbres. The FX section is quite handy, there is something special about effects on a free synths (remember Synth1).

There could be some minor improvements that would extend the possible sounds. More LFO shapes for example, I think it is not so hard to implement. There is, however, an interesting opportunity with such limited instruments to create some new sounds and develope new techniques that you wouldn't try within your comfort zone.

Hey everyone!

Had some fun this month. I went a little out of my box. That's what I love about KVR OSC. I find myself playing around more with my sound, and being inspired by all the different synths.

Its a simple ditty.

Just under the wire. Didn't know if I was going to make it - very rushed.

All the best to all y'all. Looking forward to listening to what everyone managed, actually, because this was one strange synth.

Hi all,

I ended up spending a bit of time with the thing that is known as Kairatune. Not very flexible, so I ended up layering a lot of instances. I mean: a lot! Found a good way to get noise with 8-ish instances of saw waves with mass, detune, etc. all at 100% and each instance offset by 1 semitone. It is not going to be fun counting up the instances. Not fun at all. Nonetheless, here ya go: - Optimism
