Plasmonic is so organic sounding! Not just with one static sound, but when played. Most musical physical modeling (general) synth I have.

I've been loving the demo everytime I play with it. Having a "full mpe" implementation is great. I'm super bummed at how many more synths don't respond to release velocity. The tones plasmonic makes are great and extremely playable, but if this new one covers lots of the same ground I'll be a bit stuck as to which one I want. Plasmonic is definitely something great for sound design, but is a bit pricey for the amount of use I think I'll get out of it. Once I see what this new guy does and what it costs I may finally pull the trigger on plasmonic or go with derailer. I've gotten very close to getting plasmonic already, but I keep getting other stuff that I know I'll use more often. I'd grab plasmonic in a heartbeat if I had a sci fi or horror gig to score for. Turns out I mostly get called in for comedy though. I would love any fully mpe capable physical modelling synth though so if this one is cheap enough I may grab it up on instead.

Thanks - I'd never heard of this, and didn't even realise that there's already a version out (mentioned earlier in the thread). I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl later

Yeah - changes on th eresonator view don't seem to do anything at all.pdxindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:05 am All the resonator parameters (bars and springs) don't seem to do anything. Setting the exciter to say Pitched Bar and then hitting randomize which changes all the bar and spring parameters it always sounds basically the same except it might be a bit overdriven.
I'm assuming it is just incomplete, otherwise it is basically a handful of possible sounds and that is it.
I see you can choose a bar by clicking on it then it's parameters come up - but how do you choose a spring? Also, what are the grey dots on either side of just one of the springs? (assuming that the springs are those lines between the bars)

I get quite a lot of changes in Resonator view ... you can really tweak the response of the bars there, though you can do global changes in the bottom right section that is visible in both resonator and driver views. I guess you have to be careful what parameters you are trying to tweak. As a rule of thumb, I find best to start with the driven bar, and proceed sequentially from there. You can select the springs and drag them using the grey dots. Placing them closer to the centre of the bar will have a sort of low-pass effects, that smooths out the response quite a bit. I can really get pretty nice drone sounds out of this!jbraner wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:18 pmYeah - changes on th eresonator view don't seem to do anything at all.pdxindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:05 am All the resonator parameters (bars and springs) don't seem to do anything. The resonator parameters have some small effect, but not to change the character of the sound... no matter how I adjust them, the pitched bar always sounds the same. Nowhere near flexible enough for me. So I uninstalled it.

Ahh, I see - you click on the space between the end of the spring and the bar!
That's how to select a spring.
OK, I can hear a difference now - it's not very big, as pdxindy says - but something *does* happen
Many thanks for the info.
One more question - is there any way to turn off the vibrato on aftertouch?

They are talking about Mac Pros not Macbook Pros... It is running fine on my 2013 Mac Pro... It might be related to AVX... (not sure)sqigls wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 11:01 pm RE: pre-2013 Mac Pro is NOT supported.... I'm interested to know, does this mean it WON'T run on pre-2013 mac pros, or you're just not officially supporting them? Is it a graphics limitation? Thank you for your time.
I'll download and give it a bash anyway
[EDIT] well, i can report that the 'macOS10_Intel' vst3 loads without a hitch in both Cubase 9.5 and Live 10, on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro running Mojave. Seems quite stable even.

Try to set the sweep control to its minimum value ... that is some kind of modulation. Yea, the resonator view is really just for tweaks. We thought that exposing as many parameters as possible is all good for the user ... up to them to decide what to do with them! I would also argue that Derailer and Plasmonic are very different instruments, coming from very different angles in physical modelling in fact. I wouldn't necessarily choose one over the other. I've been playing with Plasmonic and it is absolutely fantastic for textures. Derailer is more edgy, let's sayjbraner wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:52 pm Ahh, I see - you click on the space between the end of the spring and the bar!

Thanks for the info cjwseven7 - I'll play around with this some more
I have Plasmonic too. This one I need to get my head around a little more.

I really like this synth.
I'd like to be able to turn off the aftertouch vibrato, and I don't hear the "wah wah" switch doing too much - but I think a lot of cool sounds can come out of this.
I'm not sure I'll be able to program it too well, but I'm definitely interested in this when it comes out of beta
