Sounds like you want Vanilin.

This virtual MIDI keyboard has the advantage of working all the time, i.e. regardless of whether the window with the synth (or the host) is in focus or not. (It simply converts the ASCII characters of your PC keyboard into MIDI notes (via a 'hook') so your PC keyboard becomes in effect a MIDI keyboard.) Of course you will have to turn it off if you want to type some text, (preset naming, etc.), but since you can set a hotkey for that its not really a problem.

You also can create your own Layouts, i.e. specify exactly what key on the keyboard plays what MIDI note. (I can help you with that if you want to create a custom layout.) Then you have hotkeys for Base Octave, an option what key to use for Pedal, Transpose, Channel, etc., all the basic stuff you need. All you need additionally is some virtual MIDI cable to send the output of Vanilin to, and the Host/Synth to receive from. I personally use MIDI Yoke for that but all similar virtual cables should work just fine.
