I think it’s a bespoke Kontakt library being controlled by a rolli controller. It’s amazing work really.

What exactly am I hearing in this melody, in terms of instruments?

You are hearing synths, and as I said, it’s the only time in the score that synths and electronics make an overt appearance. They do so purposefully in this part of the film so that it stands apart. It would’ve been done on Oberheim Two Voice and put through various secret ingredients, but it is essentially as simple as it can be. It’s four notes. Sometimes the most arresting things are the simplest things. They’re sort of mangled in the version you hear, but it’s just four notes. It’s the production of it that does it, which obviously Geoff is a master of.

Stunning film and the soundtrack has been playing nonstop on my headphones for over a month.

That's funny : everyone is saying something different. I would have guessed a string sample played backwards and quite heavily modulated and filtered.

The riff that kicks in about half-way through the track is awesome. It's so disturbing. It literally sounds like you're face-to-face with an alien. This movie was such a pleasant surprise and a fantastic score.

The riff sounds to me like some sort of horn sample that's absolutely mutilated
