Hello everyone,

Recently I came across those kinds of old fantasy style leads in modern electro, and I really can't figure it out how to design those kinds of ''cliché sounds'' .

Here is three exemples :

- Begin at 0.50 sec

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6aFLthmBkc

- Begin at 0.15 sec and there is a lot of that ''cliché'' vibe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE62nRcxcJU

- Begin at 3.01 sec

I'm asking here for which kind of synths ( hardware or vst ) and how to program them to make those sounds.
Your help will be fully appreciated !

Thanks !

Jordan

Hi
The sounds that the others put up are one fingered basic stuff. Samples arpeggiators and twinkles.
Once got the beat play a decent bass riff and add plinks and plonks and synth stabs that would equal that or better.
Better still play music properly and all becomes easy. 8)
Took me years to play properly, but worth it.
Most of all think outside the box and use the imagination. There are no rules. :hyper:

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, but i was looking for the synth used here because a lot of guys from Frankfurt are using similar sounding pad & riffs.

I know a lot of things about programming and sound design, I can get pretty close to that but I'm really convinced that they used the same synth. I already heard it something like this ten years ago in a fantasy game, it should be a 80's synth maybe...

I've also found out that James stinson was using it a lot back in the 80's in his projects drexciya and other people place, so i'm now sure that's an 80's synth!

- Start at 3.05 min

The Tiago Walter one at 0:15 is mostly determined by a phaser (and delay and reverb). And less by the synth sound going into the phaser.

The "The Other People Place - Sunrays" lead at 3:04 is just a filterd square with portamento. Many synth can do this. And many have used it....

The Oden and Fatso one is also a Square but through a resonant filter to amplify the higher frequencies.

The first one I’m pretty sure is the BELTOM preset in SQ8L or an Ensoniq synth.
Many paid and free VSTs as well as Kontakt libraries. As well as HW synths/drum machine and acoustic instruments.

SQL8L is available as a free VST
