it's just plain wrong, like loads of stuff on the internet. i was bouncing around on doves in the early 90's when it was still called jungle beat techno, which mutated from the breakbeat rave stuff, and then into jungle (years b4 it was termed 'drum n bass'), and it was always 'junglist massive', but what do i know?

Post

Look at the different angle. They might say 'junglist massive' originally, but then lot of people misheard it and thing is in the wild since then.

and General Levy is still singing 'jungle is massive' https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... ZeluQiGoXo

P.S. with peace and love to all the ravers in the nation.
Murderous duck!

"Jungle beat techno"?

Where was any genre called that? Serous question, never heard that before.

Post

UK, south coast and London, circa early 90's. Evolved out of the Hardcore/Breakbeat scene at the time with people like Fabio and Grooverider.

Lots of people say "I should of..." and "I could care less...", doesn't make them right! Wide usage doesn't make it right either. Sorry for pedantry, was an English teacher for 12 years too. :)

Post

Not interested in your English lessons, I don't need them thanks.

I was listening to the music you describe in the places you describe, broadly speaking. Also worked at the Hac in late 80s. Never ever heard that term though.

Post

Possibly I was too dazed and confused to actually notice...

Old ravers club

Was wondering whether I'd missed a year or two in music without realising....

quick possible, the drugs were good back then.

I was there too. As I remember it :

In terms of etymology, I remember it being
hardcore (1991)
-> (hardcore) jungle techno (late 1991 because of Top Buzz, then MC Scratchmaster Techno)
-> hardcore junglism (1992 - because of The Moog track, Rebel MC then Manix/Marc Mac)
-> jungle (1993)
-> d&b (1993-94 because not all jungle had reggae influence, Hype's comps and Incredible was a cringer).

I'd never heard of "Jungle beat techno", but in defence of this claim a lot of odd terms came and went on a monthly basis in 92, often because some MC had spent a night shouting something and 10,000 off their swede ravers suddenly decided that was a thing.

The Incredible lyrics are clearly "junglist massive", the "jungle is massive" thing started about 2/3 years later with the joke "Why did the lion get lost?". Since then the punchline has been re-appropriated many times over, including the Ministry comp.

Yeah you know way more than me, moved away from hardcore and that lineage and stuck more to house and hip hop, though did appreciate mainstream like Goldie, R Size and modern dnb like Alix Perez and Hospital
