I absolutely agree! I never understand why people get so aggrieved one way or the other.zerocrossing wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 2:44 pm I just go for the tool that I think will give me what I need. No need to be dogmatic about it.
Why you left VSTs?

Yeah, I love Korean food, no doubt, but something about kimchi. You’d think I’d like it, as I love a lot of similar things... but not kimchi. My wife loves it though, there’s a jar of it in our fridge at the moment. She doesn’t love sour kraut, which I totally love, especially the fresh raw stuff. Takes all kinds.

In addition to music hardware and software i love kimchi (especially the spicy stuff) and sauerkraut, but, we could run a few more pages and argue about it.
Truly, it takes all kinds, makes the world more fun (and gives some members of kvraudio something to argue about and the rest something to discuss.

What's wrong with Apples v Oranges, why isn't it allowed?
Apples have more fibre than oranges, oranges have more vitamin C than apples etc.
Alternatively we have sentences like "apples cost as much as apples"....

Speaking of good bass right off the bat :
In the sense it doesn't really mater what you use as long as you get the result (as I've said before).
Then again, wasn't the hardware subosc invented decades ago in order to make the bass stronger?

I think in the end is not about hardware or software , or magic bass. Is about music ...
I find in hardware the easiness to sketch my ideas , somebody else maybe like the 100 knobs a modular have ...
Music is not what was in the past ... Remember when music was only one guitar and a voice ?
Today music is only bum bum bum and bum bum bum ... We need subsonic ultra deep ground 0 under earth bass and ultra high stellar crispy high strings , just to make music like x and y , great producer who use this type of sounds today ...
And the bad part is, that great artist , and here is just an example because I like electronic music , like Jean Michel Jarre , start to make shitty music , just to be in trend .

EVERYWHERE ... At radio , at tv , in the streets , in stores (now in my country the store have his radio station) ... I miss old music , but not for who sing that song , but for it musicality . (Michael Jackson - Man in the mirror , Boney M - Ma Baker , Murray Head - One night in Bangkok ) . But maybe you are too young to know this kind of music ...

I was effectively cut off from my hardware for most of the last year. So I've become quite dependant on my plugins and even to the point of thinking I crossed the line into not needing the hardware anymore. Even started adding the usual justifications of room, cord connections and the extra work that a hybrid studio entails.
But I plugged in my Radias last night after hearing Korg finally updated the driver for Win 10. And paired with my SL88 Studio (the one with the three joysticks), remembered how much I missed the approach it presents to me. What a great combination!
And it does seem to come down to that for every piece of hardware and software. Approach.
Each one forcing a different way to play it.
The VSTs "left behind" comes down mostly to a few certain factors for me.
1. Company abandonment. And then the subsequent demise by OS.
2. Developer or company perfidy. Playing marketing games to overly benefit themselves while not really doing anything for the customer base. (And yes, I have one particular narcissistic sociopathic developer that has become the baseline of comparison for the rest.)
3. Redundancy and/or supercession by something better.
