Punch in best for electronic kicks... (imo)
Drumaxx uses a method of synthesis that results in more 'drumkit' sounding sounds sometimes. xoxos has radian also... possible to get quite real sounding models out of it!!

imo two of my drum vst are "worth using" for percussion outside of tr808 emulation, the mass-spring and radian. mass vst has an appreciable timbral response to velocity but doesn't particularly sound much like a real drum, as it is one dimensional.
radian otoh sounds like acoustic drums, or to be specific, exactly like an ideal circular membrane. its preferred application is hand drums. the more complex the body, the less convincing it will sound to a critical ear.
i like the kick drums, but i don't think it does toms well. aas' percussion synths sound great, but none of them to my knowledge offer a circular membrane like radian.
with no disrespect to imageline, the model doesn't produce the same spectrum as a circular membrane. i'm not sure what they're doing, it doesn't sound like physical modelling to me. it's about as realistic as my mass vst.
extreme drumsynth may be worth checking out - it's subtractive and only adds sine and noise oscs and filters them afaia, but the patches are outstanding.
i would summarise by saying that, as far as i'm aware, radian is the only synth that renders the spectra of circular membranes without samples, and the deviation between the ideal and actual spectra of real instruments is so significant due to the complexity of acoustic systems that it falls significantly short. stefan bilbao, for instance, has developed better models, but they probably require a cpu core or three.

you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Thanks xoxos, if I could ask anyone on physical modeling it would be you! And nice job on cylinder33, it actually is real close to the somewhat elastic sound of a tom, but the size parameters don't make sense.
