I was messing around with MGranularMB recently and I found I could make risers fairly easily out of everyday sounds. Of course I could just use a synth, but with the preset I made it is faster and I can use any sound I want. Check it out if you're interested in sound design.

Cool. Very inspring.

Thought about spicing things up with filters of MWobbler?

Nice one man!

Nice. Sounds similar to the MComb with a good amount of feedback. I guess the downside of this technique is that all sounds come out pretty similar regardless of the input material, they all get that metallic sound.

@masitito - Thanks. I hadn't thought about using MWobbler, but that could be really cool.

@Thavma - Thank you

@ZentramassicSound - Thanks. You can reduce the metallic sound somewhat, but since there are so many delays of the same thing there will always be a comb filtering sound. If you increase the max delay and use the pitch random you can reduce it a bit. Also if you use fewer copies it can help get rid of a some of the resonance. Also it depends on the material. The opening synth sound was made with a comb filter, so obviously it sounded metallic, but I think the violins didn't sound quite as bad, although still artificial sounding. In the end I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.

At least for EDM where risers are staples I never got the impression that "natural sounding" is ever the goal ;)

The point is probably more if you like the kind of sound created by this particular technique. Otherwise IMHO it's easier to use a dedicated real-time pitch shifting plugin. It will keep your transients and formants (more or less) in place.
