What can be a greater tribute than all those songs that have been made in this 5 years ?... 8)

I've tried to do something special though. I went to Belgium and did some jams.
Out of a 5 minute tribute session for our friend (recorded on a 4-track !), I've destillated a 2 minute song.
I asked the leadsinger to sing something about Markleford, but he just kept looking at his fresh sparkling pint of blond Belgian beer and the only thing he sang about was that "Sweet smiling blond"...

Marc de Wit, lead vocals and acoustic guitar.
Peter Verberckmoes, lead guitar.
Pete Rabbit, backing vocals and percussion.
Pedro Conejo, drums.
Pierre Lapin, keys.
Max el Belga, bass and mastering.

Finished in Logic with my typical plugins.

Something missing ? :?

Oh yeah, the song... :-o Here's the link :

Cheers and have a good move,

Lyrics:

Seems it's longer than just 4 or 5 years
Spittin out the tracks always bringin good cheer
Could be a busted up bassline that's buzzin your ears
Or some MF'ed King Crimson killin your peers.

well he's

Chased down the prizes for the few and the brave
Knowing s.hush and others well they don't always behave,
still he puts us all onto the internet waves
with his KVR contest songs all inclusive page.

The contest host with the most no-one even comes close
to boast more song posts or audio ghosts in gross.

Yeah he's the poppa, the boppa, the audio choppa,
Supermarket Shoppa and the contest show-stoppa. 2x

Wieldin musical skills dealin audio pills and drum fills
pushin ear candy thrills this cat is totally ill.

He's prolific, terrific, genre-non-specific, transpacific at times horrific,
and with jazz he's scientific.

Even David Bowie wrote a thank you to our man of the hour,
maybe you don't believe it well check the gossip thread and scour.
DB even sent his picture to our tower of power,
with his sig on the photo and his mean rockstar glower

Layin down guitar tracks like he's Adrian Belew,
I wonder if he plays it fretless and I bet you do too.
I can't imagine a month without his audio brew.
There's a good chance he'll end up number one or number 2.

Yeah he's the poppa, the boppa, the audio choppa,
Supermarket Shoppa and the contest show-stoppa. 2x

Finally, sincerest apologies to Mr. Friedman should he find my tribute, in effect, libelous and/or

embarrassing.

Thanks for that midi files Markleford, but I never ended up using it. Instead I made an original piece which I give to you now:

Thankyou

I hope you enjoy it as much as we've all enjoyed your music over the past five years.

(For those interested: this is my first real work in Reason. It involves some presets, some original patches, and shitloads of reverb! And its a little quiet and bass-orientated, I didn't want to crush it to death with compressors.)

Yes, I was thinking of skipping this month; being around only three months I'm not really familiar with the life and works of the great Markleford.
But then I thought .. a lack of information might hinder a trained Mentat but never an artist. So here goes.

So Rekli

So rekli, bil je kovač;
Prinesel med nas je meč.
So rekli, bil je učitelj;
Je pokazal, da smo več.
Jaz pa gledam
Kamen
In se sprašujem,
se sprašujem,
se sprašujem...

So rekli, bil je bojevnik;
Ime bolj strašno kakor moč.
So rekli, bil je ljubimec,
Ime bolj strastno ko sledeča noč.
Jaz pa gledam
Kamen
In se sprašujem,
se sprašujem,
se sprašujem...

So rekli, smo zanj kričali,
ko glas njegov je zamrl.
So rekli, nekoč se vrne,
Nam zrcalo bo odstrl
Jaz pa gledam
Kamen
In se sprašujem,
se sprašujem,
se sprašujem...

Kaj pa, če...

If you're unfamiliar with the noble Slovenian tongue, here's the translation!

They said he was a blacksmith,
He brought among us the sword.
They said he was a teacher,
He'd shown us that we are more.
But I look
Upon the stone
And I wonder,
I wonder,
I wonder...

They said he was a warrior,
His name more terrifying than his might.
They said he was a lover,
His name more passionate than the following night.
But I look
Upon the stone
And I wonder,
I wonder,
I wonder...

They said, we screamed for him,
When his voice died down.
They said, one day he will return,
He'll uncover the mirror for us.
But I look
Upon the stone
And I wonder,
I wonder,
I wonder...

But what if...

Well here I go breaking the rules, however I wasn't going get any votes with this so now I might at least pick up a few larfz :) Yes I got me a mic and recorded self attempting to sing. I've also added a second verse so the ditty is a whole minute long now :o

P.S.
Scoops knows and is prolly sitting waiting with his size 14 boot right now!

Markleford was having a bad day. His pooter had crashed corrupting the hard drive and wiping out his latest masterpiece. He just knew that by the time he got his system back up it would be too late for the competition. As if that wasn't enough, he kept getting interrupted by inane requests from those pesky KVRers for stuff he had never written (or wished he hadn't).

He decided to go up to his penthouse roof garden for a break, and was just beginning to unwind with a long cool beer when he heard a terrible wailing from down below...

Don't Jump Off The Roof Mark

Don't jump off the roof Mark,
(that's what we said to the bard).
Scoops has asked for some tunes, mate,
the playing and mixing is hard.
If you don't like our scratches,
'n can't stand another bad take.
Just take a walk to the park Mark,
and there you can jump in the lake.

Don't jump off the roof Mark,
there's so much more you must do.
When we've all had our say Mark,
the ditties you'll have to review.
If you lasted 5 years mate,
this months quest will seem but a day.
But cross us, and see how we bark Mark,
You'll wish you were way back in May!

Apologies to Tommy Cooper.

Well, another unpleasant noise piece from me, loosely inspired my Sir M's memorable bible belt track. The end part was stolen from an old tune by The Dicks called hate the police.

Chronic Baby

Lyrics wrote:
As if there's an answer here,
You've been so chronic baby,
While all of these years,
Have passed through your hands...

The fires of passion dim,
Follow the bouncing ball,
Echoes still clear,
Year upon year...

Daylight illuminates,
Fading forgotten keepsakes,
All of them living,
On your radio...

<break>

You've walked through so many doors,
Ooh you're so chronic baby,
It's no wonder you,
Found yourself here...

It's a wonder,
You found yourself here...

Like so many,
You found yourself here...

I really think you,
Found yourself,
Found yourself here.

better late than never, but damn - is it late.

Me and a friend of mine called Adam collaborated for this entry, we sequenced and arranged most of it in our common point (Propellerheads Reason), i rewired to a demo sequencer (forgot which) where i synthesized a kick, compressed it, and exported it (just the kick), gave to Adam who proceeded to rewire to Cubase 4 for the final mix, exported, and mastered in Sound Forge 8.

Whew! Let me tell you, eye surgery did *not* make it easy to finish this in time!

Anyway, as some of you may know, Markleford is my brother (I'm accepting congratulations and condolences ;) ). So, I raided my archives and did a cut-up project to show Markleford's historic musical journey.

ALL OF THE MUSIC HEREIN [note: most of which was recorded ca. 1988 - 2000] was performed in whole or in part by Markleford hisself! The crap vox (with the exception of the end bit—those are Markleford's) are mine though. I give you:

Proto-Markleford

Here are the words:

Markleford
Yes, he's a man of many talents
He's a one-man orchestra
He's not just a dork. Yes, tre-
mendous talent lies in my bro
I'll show you archives

(Instrumental breaks)

We've merely scratched the surface here
It all culminates in the defining moment of this
Post-modern master's body of work
Prepare yourself for sheer musical bliss!
