can someone confirm if drive.google is ok as a direct link?

Also, wagtunes posted a song via soundcloud (hey wag, that would be a great cookie commercial song!), but it has no download link. Is his submission invalid?

If you can click the link directly to access the file without needing a Google login it should be fine.

So is soundcloud with download link enabled ok? It seems to me playing an mp3 on soundcloud is not a 'direct' link, but has a download button.

Also I sent you a PM.
thanks

I think I'm the only Google person here but its just a file share. You should see the download link at the top and it's set to any person or animal permissions. Somebody test it and let me and the rest know that it works. I had someone bring it up last month too but I cant test it because I have a google account and of course I can download. This is not a show stopper issue by any means though people. Figuring out how compression works...way more important.
Record. Edit. Post!

Jonny Quest, great entry! Curious how did you get over 500 plays on soundcloud so quick (within 3 weeks)? Looks like 3 months ago your plays went up drastically from around 20-50 to in the 100's.

Thanks for the kind words regarding my entry.

In terms of gaining followers and plays, I recently just started using social media to promote all of my music on Soundlcoud, upgraded to Soundcloud Pro, created an RMS feed, and I gained a few followers from some professional work I have done beyond the malarkey I create for this contest (in the theatrical film trailer world.)

That said, if I had a nickle for every time someone listened to my stuff on Soundcloud, I could buy a ham sandwich and a pack of smokes

My Feedback

Donkey Tugger

Music - 10
Instruments - 9
Performance - 9
Mix - 10

Overall - 9.5

Comments: Had trouble hearing the intro. Starts really soft. Kind of creeps up on you slowly. Love the guitar and the vocal. Pete Townsend, eat your heart out. Well done, as expected.

TBase2000

Music - 9
Instruments - 8.5
Performance - 8.5
Mix - 9.5

Overall - 8.75

Comments: And we go from Pete to Peter. Really dark stuff here. Love it. Vocals a little pitchy in places but given I can't sing for shit, I won't take too much off for them. This one sounds like one angry summer day. lol. Now that's what I call emotion.

Jonny Quest

Music - 9
Instruments - 9.5
Performance - 9
Mix - 8

Overall - 8.875

Comments: Mix a little too loud. Very odd track musically. Love it! I can't even imagine how somebody's mind thinks like this. Totally far out! Which Vocaloid did you use?

Mike 777

Music - 9.5
Instruments - 8.5
Performance - 9
Mix - 9.5

Overall - 9.125

Comments: Like the piano intro. Nice tension and release. Waiting to see where this goes. Hmmm. Appears it's a solo piano piece. Interesting. Oh wait, here comes some strings. Okay, now we're developing. This is getting interesting. Gutsy piece to enter with all the glitz and over the top stuff that usually wins these things. This one is so sublime. Could be a dark horse favorite depending on the reception.

Laguna Rising

Music - 8.5
Instruments - 8.5
Performance - 9.5
Mix - 7.5

Overall - 8.5

Comments: Had to turn this one down a lot. A limiter is your friend. LOL. Musically very interesting. A little hard on the ears. Mix is a little on the busy side, especially the first part. Lead guitar on right speaker doesn't quite fit with rest of mix. Almost drowns out everything else. Probably could use a little reverb. Also sounds a bit out of tune. Is that a real guitar?

Mister Natural

Music - 7.5
Instruments - 7.5
Performance - 8
Mix - 7.5

Overall - 7.625

Comments: Piano a little dull sounding. Could probably use a little EQ. Same with drums. Mix isn't bad but lacks dynamics. Vocals I can barely make out. Song itself just kind of drags for me.

Hellfog

Music - 7.5
Instruments - 8.5
Performance - 8
Mix - 8

Overall - 8

Comments: Interesting intro. Curious as to where this is going. Low end could use a touch of EQ in places. Just a little muddy. Not much. Is that a piano or some other keyboard instrument? Sounds synthetic but nice. Kick drum is barely audible. Piece seemed to end before it should have. Didn't feel finished.

Beanpole

Music - 9.5
Instruments - 9
Performance - 9
Mix - 10

Overall - 9.375

Comments: Nice solid mix on this. Not fancy but good. Love those vocals. Another 80s guy, right? Damn this reminds me of somebody but I can't put my finger on it. The funky drum beat in the chorus doesn't work for me. Sounds out of rhythm. I'm sure it's not but the weird syncopation makes it sound that way. Musically, I'm really digging this. One of my favorite tracks this month on music alone.

So let's see what we have.

Donkey Tugger - 9.5
TBase2000 - 8.75
Jonny Quest - 8.875
Mike777 - 9.125
Laguna Rising - 8.5
Mister Natural - 7.625
Hellfog - 8
Beanpole - 9.375

So sorting it out, we have

Donkey Tugger - 9.5
Beanpole - 9.375
Mike777 - 9.125
Jonny Quest - 8.875
TBase2000 - 8.75
Laguna Rising - 8.5
Hellfog - 8
Mister Natural - 7.625

Competition was fierce this month. I'm figuring to finish around 8th. Maybe 7th with a miracle.

I will now go post my results. Great job guys!

Donkey: Intro sound is awesome. Falling guitar picking super clean and nice tone. Powerful vocal. Drum beat works. I really like the realistic string bass. The build-up is thick towards the end with well chosen layers and tones. Rocked another one.

Laguna Rising: Nice dark intro that morphs into a punk type sound. You lost me a little later when you went for the guitar solos but it's hard to knock someone for ripping off a solo. Keyboard leads are solid.

Michael Triple 7's: The cover artwork is beautiful. Lots of chord work. I honestly don't get the master plan on the structure but there's movement. The keyboards help with the wandering experience to mark interesting points of interest...like, oh...look over there at that neat something in the cave.

Johnny Q: Nice beats. Not sure where we went around 1:30. Cool sound though. I need those angel voices in my studio. There's some fun synths in there as well.

Beenpole: Drum machine. -1 I like the verses better as they progress in the song with the sweeps. Theres some good changes in there and the variation of instruments helps keep it fun.

Mr Natural: Nice work with the creative patches and sounds to build your underwater landscape. Good easy listen. Moist.

Hellfog: There's some timing issues in here that I couldn't live with. Are those French horns in there? If so, interesting choice. I like the layers and the environment that comes out of it. Could be tighter.

Wagtunes: I wasn't feeling this one. Sorry
