I ripped off New Order and The Cure. I regret nothing.

After too much listening to New Order's Blue Monday and other New Wave stuff, my brain has ejected a Synthwave track, and it sneaked a "The Cure" moment in it because 30 years listening to The Cure have side effects, no matter I want them or not.

Hi,
i can guess what you mean with the comparison to New Order: A somewhat melancholic sound with 80s synths. I guess the "The Cure"-part is when the beat stops and the guitars get in. I get the reminiscence. This track is an instrumental, to me it sounds a bit like a backing track. It could be really interesting to see what might develop with a melody or even some lyrics over it.

It's not bad but as someone else said, sounds like a backing track. Needs vocals or something. Heard worse. Just doesn't do an awful lot for me as it's just kind of there. The little stutter did not make the track better.

New Order, a little Cure and plenty of Robert Miles. I liked it a lot. I sometimes want to do some dark stuff because I get inspired by the statues and sculptures in the main Graveyard here. They remind me of the cover of Joy Division's "Closer" album and the 12" of "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
Anyway, that was really enjoyable listening. Thanks for sharing.

You got me with the title. I love New Order, and The Cure has their moments. (Lullaby, Close to me, and Caterpillar). I was bored of your song and i went searching for the title of Lullaby which i'd forgotten.
OK back to your song: I like the keys/pad. The guitar is quality. The production ok in the 2nd half of the song. I won't listen it again, but i had thought the production not great the first half.

Thanks everyone for listening, and thanks for their comments. I'll consider what some of you said and put some work on it, make some changes before moving on and start working on a vocal version.

Well, the good news is that New Order might have ripped off Blue Monday themselves. I used to roadie for this guy, who used to be the demo guy for Fairlight, and he swears blind that the basics of Blue Monday were one of the demo pieces he always used and he definitely demo'd to New Order a year or so before Blue Monday came out. He did a really good version of Blue Monday and I am inclined to believe his story because it fits his musical style.

actuall, Blue Monday is a collection of bits of other songs
"Blue Monday was influenced by several songs. Hook said the song was "stolen" from the Donna Summer song "Our Love" from the Bad Girls album.[16] Bernard Sumner said part of the arrangement came from "Dirty Talk", by Klein + M.B.O, the synthesised bassline from Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)". Hook's bassline was derived from an Ennio Morricone soundtrack,[16] For a Few Dollars More: Hook said "I stole it" after watching the film of the same name in the studio.[17] In the Guardian, Clinton Heylin alleged that the song was derived from "Gerry and the Holograms", the 1979 title track by the novelty group of the same name,[16] but Sumner denied this"

it also has the choir sound sampled from Kraftwerk

Are you sure they are not changing their story to give the press whatever they want to hear at the time? Happens a lot in the music industry.AnX wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 7:12 am actuall, Blue Monday is a collection of bits of other songs

Dig it, wish it was faster and more dance floor friendly, layered with beefier kick and having more urge.
