quad channel memory isn't a must-have with the high-speed ram that's available now.

Well, yeah, you're not paying for someone elses time to build it, test it or provide a warranty.

Given we're a components reseller as well, there is nothing to stop someone spec'ing their own setup as well if you don't agree with the choices.

Which was my point about the poor air flow.

Ok I've been looking at another British pc build company and they seem to be pretty good after doing some research. They are pcspecialist.
I've been looking at this set up:

Not sure about overclocking. Does also come with a no overclocking option.
Never had a OC pc before.

For another £300 I could get a 8 core Skylake 7820x. Would I see much difference or would Coffee lake 8700k be enough?

it's a tough call. imo it's worth the extra cost for the 7820x, as you want as much capability as you can get for the long term. it can also be worth it to spend that money on other studio gear that might make a bigger difference however - not everyone will max out a 8700K, it has a whole lot of juice. ultimately it's your decision, me I went z370 cause I didn't really vibe with any of the x299 mobos, except for the rampage VI which is just stupidly overpriced where I am, and also to start with.

oh and nowadays, unless you get a really cheap mobo then it is made for overclocking and if you run the cpu stock then you're pretty much just checking out the demo. it's nothing to be afraid of.

If you ever want to use Thunderbolt in the Asus Z370 line, must be the Asus PRIME-A, not PRIME-P.

Go with scan I just bought a custom 8700k audio pc from them back in December , the guys were great and very patient with myself pestering them with questions before purchase .
You mentioned your old pc was from scan and it lasted 10 years . If you already know they are quality company why try elsewhere

Aye, indeed, there isn't the connection header on the cheaper "P" edition, it's one of kay the differentiators at that price point.
