A good post from AlphaC https://www.overclock.net/forum/27697868-post16.html
The Prime Z390-A got decent VRM, but "meh" heatsink.
That is why proper airflow over the heatsinks is important.

There is a new BIOS(1.45) for ASRock Taichi Z390
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z390%20 ... x.asp#BIOS
and mention "Modify Vcore Load line Calibration"
Hummm...
Lets hope fix the issue mentioned in Tom's Hardware review.
Any Chance that there will be a Black Friday deal on these MB's?
I do not know, but I doubt that recent launched items will be in promotion...

Yes it was a good post by AlphaC but for me I was unable to determine which mobo to get. He seem to like Gigabyte.

Because Asus likely has the best BIOS it will be hard for me to look elsewhere. Perhaps spend the money and get ROG MAXIMUS XI EXTREME https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-M ... fications/

Not sure how important USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt is. Will removing them from my specs help any?

I only have a mild aversion to Gigabyte motherboards. Perhaps I should add MSI to the Asus and Asrock list.

There's always a chance, sure. There's also a chance that inventories will deplete and prices will go up. It's always a gamble. The 9900K should be around $500 USD right now, but it's currently twice that.

Prime Z390-A + good air flow should be ok.

The lower latency audio interfaces are PCIe and Thunderbolt

Or maybe some neat dock

Well, if do not need Thunderbolt then get the ASUS MAXIMUS Hero XI

No.

Often the top of the range board has the most extra hardware tacked on - connectivity and gamer oriented stuff. All those extra bells and whistles need drivers that may or may not play nice with low latency audio.

The extra stuff can be disabled or simple do not install...

You guys are making me want to build a new machine. Need to wait for those 9900K’s to come back down to earth, though. $1000 USD ain’t happening now nor anytime for a CPU that retails at a little north of $500 USD.

If you can afford it, the beefier CPU the better for music production! You will greatly enjoy the 8700k

You post above got me to rethink the specs.

Asus Comparison chart. These motherboards all look good to me. Not knowledgeable enough to discern the fine details to select the best for my music computer.
https://www.asus.com/Product-Compare/?p ... kJLsNF&b=0
Removed Rog Maximus XI Extreme the EATX may be too big for my case?

One concern I have is that my PSU is compatible with the Z390 motherboards. CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6817139009

I had said I wanted the motherboard with the best BIOS. Let me revise it as it may make a difference in selecting the motherboard. I want the best BIOS for an intermediate PC builder that does not plan any high stakes overclocking.

Paid $515 at CompSource and hope to receive late November but my suspicion is I will get it Mid December. Oh well!

Ten years or so the audio experts we recommending to get the simplest motherboard for music creation. I cannot recall why they recommended this. But in our modern times this is not so! Good to know.

I will be able to disable or not install in the BIOS or in Windows? Sorry for the dumb question. It’s been a while since I built my last computer.

In which case, why pay for it? Audio pro builders don't use those boards IME. Some of those features are geared toward people running 2-4 high spec graphics adapters with huge power drains. If you are just attaching a USB interface ...

Pictus,

I decide on the ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO as I really do not need thunderbolt. The USB 3.1 is good enough. If I ever need the TB I can always get a PCIe TB card.

My part selection https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RpkCq4 It seems good but I need to check the dimensions for the cooler to fit in the case and the RAM height.

Wow! making real progress here.

Now I need to pick my 32 GB RAM. And to be able to increase it too 64GB.

Do the coolers nowadays include the thermal paste?
