10 watt shock from iMac-halp?
Heya,
hmm- I'm getting low wattage shocks from my gear(a tickly kinda thing on soft contact), it's coming from->
Alienware monitor
imac
2 soundcards(stringport,presonus audiobox)
What do you make of it?
The 300 watt(I think) Alienware is fine to touch the installed power supply unit
I have a multi-meter, have not measured(a little unsure how)
Maybe I have a bad ground somewhere?
What should I do?

Re: 10 watt shock from iMac-halp?
on the presonus audiobox 1818vsl-
the current is coming over the USB lead.
Is it just normal, do u think?

Not normal, no. Sorry, what do you touch that gives you the shock?

Current over a usb lead is absolutely normal, but getting a shock isn't.

it's the aluminium faceplate or steelwork cover,
it is truly the lightest tingle atm

Re: 10 watt shock from iMac-halp?
Is it constant, or is it like a static discharge?
Sorry, just to be clear, it's coming from the aluminium faceplate of the presonus soundcard?

Re: 10 watt shock from iMac-halp?
it's constant,
it doesn't discharge.
Yep, it's coming from the extruded alu faceplate or fabricated steel cover,
when USB is plugged in. the AudioBox is not plugged to it's power adaptor when this happens-
just to a USB lead. I can try plugging it into the power socket
What I did was unconnect everything and make sure I have all grounds in place,
the Audiobox has no ground. It's 18v DC adapted with the original adaptor
it doesn't discharge.

Is there a fork sticking out of the power socket?
A well-behaved signature.

Re: 10 watt shock from iMac-halp?
I had a snooze for a couple of hours-
and the Presonus doesn't make my hand tingle any more.
The iMac still does though.
I guess I won't worry about it.
Jer Goertz, we did possibly have a short in the house when our fridge stopped working recently.
That socket is now broken
and the Presonus doesn't make my hand tingle any more.

It's normal. This is what gives your tracks analog warmth.
