Though I'm fond of the Toshiba stats (expecially the n300 and x300) it's hard to get them in models that have high cache at a reasonable cost. I however, was able to find a good 4tb HDD, a Seagate Skyhawk for a fair price with 256mb of cache and at 7200rpm.
I thought it would be a relatively simple matter to find a good 7200 rpm mechanical hard drive. Instead in the case of the WD red (regular, plus&pro) as well as the Seagate Ironwolf and even the Barracuda were only at speeds of 5400 and 5900 rpm. It was only the Toshiba and Seagate Skyhawk which rose above as capable drives having good size cache and rpm.
Please keep in mind that to attain the 7200rpm speed, you'll need to be purchasing a 256mb cache model of the 4tb Seagate Skyhawk in 2021. They make it difficult to find out what rpm it is throughout the seagate site, as well as in Amazon and Newegg. I really had to look so to understand, given that 2 rpm's are available for the same model #, with the only difference being the cache.
That made it quite difficult to use the userbenchmark.com site to any degree of certainty. Afterall, likely when choosing the model # and testing againt the WD Black for instance, then likely I'm only accessing stats from a 5400 or 5900 rpm model.

This HDD, after months of use; has indeed been every stable in a few DAW's I have used it with.
I've seen no real difference in speed (vs ssd) when loading audio sample previews from the media browser in fl studio for instance.
