What is the difference between *ED.rar and *EDC.rar downloads? The EDCs seem to be smaller in size. Which one is better?

The EDC are the latest files using the flac lossless compression (which means, smaller size, less CPU, less steaming load, less space on HD, smaller loading time, etc), so these are the ones to use.

We kept the -ED files for compatibility reasons in case customers that bought their libraries a while ago could still get the same old versions, but there are no updates made to these.

Maybe we should write that somewhere...

Yep, i'll do that, i just don't want to confuse people that only have the -EDC ones... ;) But i'll find a way ;)
