Since I saw this get bumped up figured Id add in, +1 for jasuto. The dev said he should be updating it soon to fix some touch issues which were the only probs Ive had on it.

Second you can add RD3 to the list. Like a stripped down drum machine + stripped 303

I wonder if the availability of App Inventor will mean that more music related apps are released on Android?

for you who have tested these, may i ask:

which one lets me launch my own samples, like a tracker?

i mean, the interface doesn't have to be a tracker-interface, but i mean that i don't only want to launch loops, but be able to play piano on with one piano sample and then add my own drums etc.

also, would be great if there were some audio effects like delay or distortion, and maybe even softsynths.

have you tried any amiga trackers on UAE?

i sure hope milkytracker and/or sunvox will be ported soon, or some other sequencer which is more advanced already, if there are no native ones available yet.

have a look at sunvox if it doesn't ring a bell. looks good and qute possible to get imho.

These two will:

I had this app on my previous phone ( nokia N95 8GB ), was quite nice:

Haven't seen anything like that for Android, yet.
I got a Samsung Galaxy S, would be nice to see a VA synth with sequencer or so.

What is a problem is the latency when playing a piano or so, or tap drumpads.
It's not that responsive ( yet? )..

Cheers.

RD3 Groovebox is great fun.

Just bought Jasuto and then had to uninstall it and nick an older apk off the net because the current version doesn't work on my phone.

Electrum is the best drum machine I've tried so far.
coffeefox wrote:If these 2 apps (or something similar) were available for the Android OS - with low latency (of course). I would gladly flush the iPhone down the toilet and get a new phone.
That's the thing; there is no native audio support in the NDK, so android apps pretty much always have to have latency. It's a bit weak because many of the most popular mobile phone audio programs are drum machines which need low latency. It's often noticeable in games as well.

I discussed the latency issue with my brother. I can't recall the exact number, but I think he said latency is somewhere in the range of 200ms. Android 2.2 has not improved the situation. I don't know if 2.2 added native audio support to the NDK, but I'm assuming we would have heard about it by now if it had.

NanoStudio is amazing. I was so ready to jump ship from the iphone, but now I'm gonna patiently wait on an Android phone.

I'm REALLY annoyed with certain iphone limitations, but I'll stick with it as long as NanoStudio has no equivalent. It's that good/fun!! :hihi:

I've seen that, isn't that program with lots of: register for this..register for that.. etc. ( if not, then i'll probably buy it soon ).
I hate that, i am willing to pay money ( bought reloop and electrum drummachine for example ) but i don't want to register to be able to use services.

if i understand you correctly, it's not that one.

this one does ask me to buy it by nagging every few minutes but .. well, just test it out

imho it's just too much of a toy. does sound good though.

if it had more simultaneous synths and samplers i would reconsider ..

and loading my own samples would be a must.

Anyone heard of a midi sequencer (more focused on piano roll edits than audio loops) that exists or is being developed for the android phones?

/Johnny, thinking of buying a htc

I mentioned this in another thread:
http://m.currach.net/a/budgerigar/index.html

Is in the market too. Free version is also available. It looks like :-o , but is actually pretty usable when you spend a few minutes too learn it. I think it uses the internal GM-wavetable of my HTC. So it doesn't sound great, but has all instruments available and you can definately make some music with it. It has a familiar linear edit interface (with copy paste of parts) and usable pianoroll.

It exports to MIDI btw. Didn't test that.

So: it looks like :-o , sounds like :-o , but can be productive :)

Ok, so i tested "RD3 Groovebox"...indeed great fun.
The nagscreen is a bit annoying, so i'll buy the app soon.

I would like to see an option that disables the screensaver to go active, because audio stops when that happens. I could just change the screensaver active time ( it's now 30 seconds ), but i feel the option should be in the app.

Yeah, thanx! Actually I think I read about it in your other thread, but forgot! Yeah it looks really terrible. But maybe its useful anyway as you say. I would only use a sequencer like that for sketching out compositions, and exporting midi to my daw later on, to make it sound good. :) Is there any progress in the development of that product, you think? Maybe the dev will improve the visuals...

Edit: Looks like it's just 1,5 months old!! I think I'll contact the dev and ask what plans he has. :)

ersion 1.3 2010.09.11 support Android Market Licensing(LVL).
Version 1.2 2010.09.08 Enhanced saving
Version 1.1 2010.08.24 add Export & Import project.
Version 1.0 2010.08.19 First version
This lack of good piano roll "cubase like" sequencers for android is really what's making me think I'll buy a cheap ipod touch 4g instead, but then I would have to have 2 machines in my pocket (ipod + phone) instead of one.

PLEASE complain, bitch & moan about the Android audio lag issue on Google Code page here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3434

REMEMBER TO STAR THE ISSUE AS IMPORTANT! Maybe Google will hear us and bring better support for low latency audio...
