Is it possible to drag MIDI items from Reaper into RC?
I can do this in Cubase, but so far have been unable to do this in the mighty Reaper.

Thanks

I have tried, but I could not drag anything to outside of Reaper. How can I do that?
Can you drag MIDI items and drop it on an Explorer window? Does it create a MIDI file? (Are you on Windows or macOS?)

Thanks,
Attila

I'm on PC, Windows 10.

With EZ Drummer you can holt CTRL+ALT and drag MIDI clips from Reaper into the VSTi.

simply hold Alt (right Alt) and drag drop to folder/Explorer

Only Ctrl+Alt+dragging works for me. Now I managed to drag from Reaper but (for more than 2 hours) I can't figure out which data format is included in the drag message. RC correctly finds a file with a filename, however that file does not exist in Documents/REAPER Media, so when it tries to open the file, an error occurs. :(

I could be wrong, but, in Reaper, you should use the export function. In Reaper's midi editor, use the file/export.. That is how I do it.. if there is drag possibility, I am not aware of it..

Finally good news! Now drag from Reaper works well! (BluGenes: you need to drag with Ctrl+Alt)

The problem was that RC was not able to show you a preview during dragging, because the dragged MIDI clip file was created by Reaper when you dropped it, but not before. You will still see an error message in RC ("The requested MIDI file could not be opened") but dropping the file will be successful.

In addition Ctrl-drop also works, so you can drop the MIDI clip in an analysed, relative form, which will automatically use the RC master track chords.

This improvement will be in the next beta version (still in a few days).

In addition dragging phrases as MIDI was implemented today.
You can drag the selected phrases to a DAW by Ctrl-Alt-Shift drag.
This was requested by lulukom long ago.
I am putting together a detailed chapter in the wiki for drag&drop.

Hi lulukom,
If you are happy, I am happy :)

Please study the updated "Drag and Drop" chapter in the wiki. All the possible drag-and-drop combinations are explained with images. Not just MIDI, but also rhythm and chord progressions.

Not Sure what my default used to be, but, maybe it was that at one time in Reaper.. Had to look again, mine is Shift-Ctl-ALt.. I think I changed my default for another purpose, but, can't remember why.. I need to start writing things down.. lol thanks..

If anyone not sure, open Preference -> Editing Behavior ->Mouse Modifiers -> Context : Media Item : Left Drag..
