well, it's basically cc64 in switch mode (0-63 off, 64-127 is on).
what it does is, that all notes that are held on the keyboard crrently (note on status, no note off sent) as well as the ones that one adds while the hold pedal is above value 63, are held by the pedal as long as it is pressed. all notes that meet this condition are running through the envs until entering sustain stage, from then the hold pedal holds the sustain values. once the pedal is released, all notes enter release stage.
hope i am clear, my english sucks when it comes to such deep explanations, as well as that this is all i know about the hold pedal (also called sustain pedal), technically.
