FR: Save "Supported Control Surface" as templates for custom control surfaces

But some of the button assignments just don't make sense to me. I'd like to edit the assignments of some of the controls rather than go through the process of creating a whole new controller. Is there any way to do this? If there is, I can't find it, and if there isn't, it's a feature I'd like to request for an upcoming version.

I've paraphrased the OP in this thread title. I'd like to be able to modify a copy of the MCU controller assignments without having to start from scratch. It's not really even a feature request - please could you share the supported control surface settings so that we can import them and edit them? Pretty please? xxx

Also, do the user assignable controls support button combinations/sequences? (Example, my controller has a dedicated EQ section with one knob each for frequency, gain and EQ. The frequency band is selected by buttons for low, low-mid, high-mid and high.)

That isn't really possible. The MCU is custom implementation that supports a lot of different modes and behaviors. A lot of these can't be replicated in the MIDI/OSC controllers that are a 1-to-1 mapping between MIDI messages and features in Waveform.

Yes, I truly wish we could simply kick off macros with midi triggers!

Till that happens I recommend a few utilities to expand a your controllers abilities. All free by the way.

Don't have time to go into it in depth but here is what I did

Copperlan will allow you to create a MIDI network spanning your multiple computers, but it also lets you you create virtual MIDI devices. Those devices can merge your hardware devices. I created a single device that allows my faders and keyboard to work together as one device. Next you can create additional devices with loopMIDI. It has the advantage of being able to give the ports useful names. Use Copperlan Virtual merged devices as inputs in TransMIDIfier use the LoopMIDI ports as outputs. Use them as inputs in Waveform. Magic.

Watch the video a few times and you'll get an idea how powerful the software is.

Thanks for that Rock! What about a utility that translates MIDI to keystrokes? Could that be used to enable a controller to trigger macros?

I think I made one of those using autohotkey a long time ago, I could look for it. The nice thing about Waveform adding MIDI triggering to it's macros is that a virtually unlimited number of MIDI triggers could be defined, but there are far fewer potential key combinations.

Another advantage MIDI triggers have over hotkeys is that they don't demand focus and can work even when Waveform is in the background.
