I setup a retro MIDI environment for my garage studio. I was recently given a pristine winxp laptop. I like my old software, but when I went to install t3, I caught wind of the virus warnings about the keygens.

I have Reaper and Caustic working on the laptop, but I really like Tracktion's workflow...always have.

I need to power my mostly 90s hardware...MOTU micro to Nordrack2, Boss Dr5, Roland MC50, Roland MC09, Alesis quadraverb gt and +, along with my hip new state of the art monologue and volca bass.

Which of the newer Tracktions work best on XP? I am guessing the T3 ultimate bundle I bought at guit cent is useless now.

What ARE the specs of the winxp machine? (Memory/processor)?

Until it died about 2 years ago, I was running T3 through T7 on a 10-year old XP desktop with 2G of memory; with ASIO4Free and a USB Uno Midi adapter.

You can probably still get T4 from them, if you ask very nicely. It's still down-loadable from
my account. I would guess it would work, providing you have the latest service packs for XP.

(probably)

Go for T4. It's similar to T3, but can be authorised. Basically, Mackie bought an earlier version of Tracktion, but left it for dead for years. When TSC took it over, it proved impossible to have T3 authorised any longer. You should be able to use at least some of the plug-ins that came with your bundle. You'll need to create an account on the Tracktion website.

I'm assuming you'll be able to authorise and run T4.

I never really got Kontakt working, Drumcore I liked but was always glitchy, I liked the Linplug synths a lot, and final mix was great. I assume the IK stuff I can use whenever if I have permissions left...I hate their activation process. Which of these plugins do you think will still work?

Just install the free version of T7. It runs on Raspberry Pi's, so I can't see the point of installing anything earlier
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"

T7 is some kind of milestone. I recommend it. (download the current build)
for free, it is not entirely perfect, but the most powerful, and notably stable version in its development path.
waveform is a different path aready.

Huh?

Yeah, for those using T3 and moving to a new machine when Mackie removed the licensing server, some hackers saw opportunity and came up with a keygen program to generate keys that would create keys for T3 - at the price of infecting the machine with virus/malware. Keygen programs were notorious for that.

I don't think t7 is an option. I have that on my win7 desktop PC, and I like it.

If it works on XP I think it will be up to luck.

I downloaded t4 and will see how that goes for me. Thanks for the advice.

If you already have and use T7, try it and see. You can have T4 installed at the same time, but it would be easier if both were the same (allthough the old machine would have to run the 32-bit version).
