Cream demo doesn't work in (my) Ableton Live 9 Suite

I'm rather puzzled that Cream demo does not work at all in Ableton Live 9 Suite (Mac).
I put it on a miditrack and route it to my synth but there's no arpeggiating happening at all.
I can see that notes are received because the sequencers are running on each key pressed.
I tried many presets and theres no change. Actually I get some unhealthy sounding clicks each time I switch preset.
So whats up?

Another thing:
Would it not be possible to make Cream as a midi effect so that one can place it on a midi track ALONG WITH the instrument you're playing - just like you can with Abletons Arpeggiator? It is rather annoying to have to route a seperate track to the track with your instrument and when using Push it gets a bit messy/unclear and you have to switch between tracks.
