Why are clips recording into arranger tracks?

This is an old paradigm of ableton live, i dont mind it.
And it´s not really destructive, after recording/overwriting you can copy the clips you wanted to record, press undo and then paste them back in.
I usually record into the clip launcher as well.

I totally agree. I Thought it was a bug until I found out it was a really bad feature.ThomasHelzle wrote:Call this my personal most hated feature.
IMO it's totally retarded, but I was not able to convince the devs that I NEVER EVER want something recorded when record isn't enabled for a track, especially since it is destructive and overwrites what's already there.
I had heated discussions about it but they didn't even understand why I think it's so absolutely abysmally bad and useless.
Maybe you have more luck writing to support...
I gave up at one point.
Cheers,
Tom
As a minimum we need the option to deactivate this behavior for selected tracks

It's really annoying in Ableton, too.Tearing Riots wrote:This is an old paradigm of ableton live, i dont mind it.
Please Bitwig be different.
Please write to support if you want this improved!

You should never record onto a track that's not armed. Period. I don't know why it would even be considered.

+ infinite. It s a totally non sense behavior. I also sent my concerns to devs about this many months ago but they didn't see that as an issueThomasHelzle wrote:Call this my personal most hated feature.

Yeah, although Bitwig is very independent from how Live works in most areas, this one is stuck in old Live-thinking, although Bitwig is much more flexible regarding the clip-launcher/arranger relationship in all areas but this.
I still hope that one day the devs will see the light.

Tom

Some stuff they just copied without any additional thought... same with follow actions. For years Live has been waiting for some creative thought in that area, and Bitwig just copied Live's annoying limitations over.ThomasHelzle wrote:Yeah, although Bitwig is very independent from how Live works in most areas, this one is stuck in old Live-thinking, although Bitwig is much more flexible regarding the clip-launcher/arranger relationship in all areas but this.

Yeah, but there it's a mixed bag. You at least have the "Back to arranger" action which Live hasn't and there are also the post recording actions that allow for a kind of takes.pdxindy wrote:Some stuff they just copied without any additional thought... same with follow actions. On the other hand you can't have groups AFAIK in BWS, where in Live several clips would be seen as separate group if there is a gap between them. Last time I tried BWS ignored those and you needed to create the groups on different tracks.
But yeah, still several areas that could use some love, thought and emancipation from the "big ol brother".
I just find this one especially stupid...

I don't understand why it isn't possible to have next action for scenes. It would be really usefull

mljakobsen, I just checked because I thought it was. Clicked on Scene 1, but in the inspector there is only a place to edit the scene name, nothing else.

ATM scenes are no real "entities" in BWS. It got a bit better in the API in 2.0, but overall scenes are only defined by the clips they contain, not as real "units". But yeah, that could be nice...

Just happened again...
Recording new tracks in the arranger, while monitoring clips in the launcher, and all arranger tracks that were NOT armed for recording were erased! WTF?? I'm writing to Bitwig now.
