Hey,

Beta 4 is available.

Changes in Bitwig Studio 2.2 Beta 4

Released on 20.09.2017.

FIXED Add L/R/M/S selector to Audio Rate.
FIXED Controllers are not able to change or read the tempo when Ableton Link is enabled.
FIXED Sample preview sometimes clicked at the beginning.
FIXED Transposing notes using arrow keys sometimes erases other notes when passing over.
FIXED Copying automation to clip launcher needs finer threshold for streamlining points, to avoid that straight sections result in a sloped section if points are very close.
FIXED Regression: Keyboard input was broken for some plug-ins on Windows.
FIXED Time shift shouldn't be automatable & modulatable.
FIXED Regression in 2.2: Preview player doesn't always stop.

I'm sure it will be brought up on the beta forum, since you were not the only one having fun with it. Maybe there is a technical reason they had to remove it, or it was just an oversight.

It was an oversight and should not be modulateable and automatable for technical reasons:
Negative delay obviously is only possible by delaying all other tracks via PDC and if you constantly change the latency that has to be compensated in the project in real time while playing, you'll get clicks and dropouts.

Cheers,
Dom
There you go folks.

Well, as long as it doesn't crash Bitwig, users should be free to choose if they are OK with the clicks or not. Also the users might want to use it as a sound design tool for a single track, which would be then bounced to audio to be used in full mix.

Also, would modulating the Time Shift be effectively any different from putting several instances of it (with different offsets) in FX Chain and then cycling through the chains with automation?

Dom, the Flux Capacitor is. what. makes. time. travel. possible. The Time Shift device almost did it.

The devs at Bitwig are obsessed with time travel, they almost did it here.

In all seriousness, if it isn't modulated etc then it may as well be a knob on the mixer rather than a rack fx so that you can scan across them all.

Right! Good q. Is modulating timeshift gone now?
