With the MIX modulator: If I modulate the crossfade with a LFO, it seems to hit maximum values well before the LFO has reached its equivalents. Therefore, a longer than expected period of time where the LFO is still moving but the crossfade is already fully left or right.
This seems strange. Maybe crossfade is designed to work with hardware MIDI controllers which are lower res than internal modulators?

You can also use two LFO modulators 90 degrees out of phase with each other to create perfectly smooth, circular cross fading among all four XY slots.
