Bitwig and eye strain

warcat: first, the obvious question. Have you seen an optometrist to have your eyes checked out? I have reduced vision on my left eye that is small enough that I barely notice it, except for when I cover my right one. Its so unnoticeable that it doesn't affect my reading but it very well could lead to increased strain.
Are you having issues with other DAWs? It's a particular kind of program where your eyes have to move around a lot, focusing on elements of varying sizes. This differs a bit from other programs, or reading text, and could cause strain on the muscles moving your eyes as well as the pupil having to readjust.
One free solution I might suggest is to install f.lux, a freeware program for macos and windows that can adjust both blue light emission and brightness. Since a few years back, these features are native in both windows and macos, but I find flux to be better. It's a life saver for the eyes if you're in front of your computer a lot. On Linux, there's redshift instead. It's well worth a try.

thank you, everyone, sorry, still don't have time for detailed answers.
ok FPS doesn't seem to be the right direction.
I keep trying different monitor settings (I expect it would help at least a little).
yes, I already tried most of the obvious solutions - doctors, different monitors, computer glasses, flux, and so on, but the point is Bitwig causes much more strain than other DAWs (Studio One and, recently, Serato Studio) while using the same monitor, settings, etc. That's strange and that's what I am trying to "investigate".

I understand that, and it's still consistent with what I described. However, the FPS of a GUI *could very well* cause this, even though I'm saying that's highly unlikely in Bitwigs case, so it's not at all a red herring.
They are two different possible issues, and both should be addressed independently. Given that this topic is specific to Bitwig (i.e. this problem does not occur on numerous other software windows), I don't think it makes sense to consider the hardware.
But, I think you know this already, and maybe we're mixing words or concepts. Refreshing a window at 20hz while the screen is refreshing at 60hz will obviously not make that motion smoother or faster. When speaking of the software window, as long as the hardware screen refreshes faster than the window (and they're appropriately synchronized), then the hardware screen refresh rate makes no difference.

Funny thing: for me Bitwig is too dark, and i sent them request for light theme. I sometimes choose to work in different DAW that i can has lighter theme or adjustment.
I would like to see something like this: (someone else's POC)
But would bee also nice to have theme's adjustment, so user can have more settings than just contrast. Right now you can adjust contrast in Settings.

Anyone who has problems with eye strain and headaches after using a monitor should google or DuckDuckGo "pwm monitor".
Pwm is pulse width modulation, yep the same as used in synths etc.
It makes the screen flicker and screws with your eyes.

Win 10 with Ryzen 5950x, Bitwig 5, too many plugins, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

That's the only reason I do a lot more work in Live than Bitwig.
Bitwig needs a theme engine, urgent!
