When I have BDM loaded inside Live 8 with the factory skin, everything works as expected, but if I use the ModPack tool to load the Branis skin, the pads no longer produce any sound. When I switch back to the factory skin, all is well again.

Is it possible to do anything about this, as I much prefer the Branis skin. I have tried changing just the contents of the skin folder (not the samples), but the audio stopped working again. I'm on XP ...
You mean: the mouse click on the GUI pads "no longer produce any sound", right?
That's because Branis forgot to put 4 lines in the skin.xml

At line 172 there should be

kNULL
kLed1,
kLed2,
kLed3,
kLed4,

anyway here is the file fixed
http://liqihsynth.com/skin.xml
(use Save As... and replace the old skin.xml in ..\NUSofting Data\BDM\skin)

please try that and tell me if the volume is better now.

Thanks
A quick test shows a good improvement volume-wise, but I'd say another 6db couldn't hurt. If a patch is too loud, it can always be turned down, but if it's too quiet, which a lot of them still are, then there's less that can be done to raise to volume short of compression and the like. So yes, better, but even more if possible please. :)

Yes, sorry, there is one, I forgot,
Replying to you but asking blurk, didn't Knagalis AU keep the "save as default bank" menu?
Thanks would mean that Knagalis AU can load FXB
Yes, Knagalis AU does have the "save as default bank menu" and I recall testing that when I made the port. However, for a third party FXB, you need to copy it into the right place to load it. There isn't an FXB file loader in the Knagalis GUI. That's what I meant by it probably being done via the host in the VST version.

I can look at all that again, but for the moment it just seems easier to convert the Ethnicity bank to aupresets to get going.

Thanks ... any reason this isn't included with the original download?

OK, I'll do that. I've PMed Prosounds too, and they are cool with that. Until I get it right, though, it might be a bit fiddly to do so I mightn't be able to get it done until this coming weekend.
It was a bit more fiddly to do, but done it is. Since ProSounds uploaded the original bank to KVR, I've done the same with the aupresets: grab 'em from here.

Since AU preset handling is done by the host on a per preset basis, they won't initially appear in the preset menu within the plugin. Just stick with dealing with the AU presets from the host to save confusion.

I looked at this more closely when I did the Ethnicity bank conversion. It turns out that the default bank isn't in FXB format. It is a chunk of data that gets included in the FXB file when the host saves it.

Strings Dream for Mac Demo updates
http://dashsignature.com/SDS/Strings_Dr ... AU_VST.zip

These should fix noise and skin issues on OS X, if they don't we will not give up and will tame the beast

It certainly looks like the noise issue has been fixed. I've had it running for well over an hour now without a noise burst. Well done fixing that.
