I used to hate it. I was really sceptical on how "valuable" it actually was, and I believed that my time was better spent focussing on what really mattered - music and gigging.
Overtime, I saw other artists achieving bigger opportunities that I believed my band deserved. "What's wrong?" I thought. "Why aren't industry and fans connecting with us the same way they do during a live show?"
That's when I finally gave in and gave the whole social media thing a try.
I gave myself one year of consistent posting, and learned everything I could about the platforms. I focussed on one, particularly Instagram, and fortunately (and kind of unfortunately) proved myself wrong.
Social media can truly open up opportunities if you create a unique brand and build a following.
