I'm new and happy to be here

I can't find what I want to know on the website stuff is scattered everywhere

It's so confusing and illogical

What I wish to know is

Re model packs

I wish to try them all

I have an xt v1

1/ does the x3 let you add packs

2/ the latest firmware on the xt has lots more models

Ie are model packs included in latest firmwares

3/or do I need to buy all the packs as add ons

4/ I can get a triple pack ie collector metal, fx

Is it worth getting the power pack

5/lastly any line 6 products I can get them all in one

The farm and ports are confusing too

It's so confusing I can't work out what has what ie compare like with like

I've done copious research and emailed them but no reply

Thanks for help

Get an X3. It has ALL the model packs preinstalled PLUS it allows you to do dual routing.
Two complete chains in one patch. Also the X3 has an XLR in, bigger screen and it just plain sounds better IMHO. Personally, I like the X3 even better than the Pod HD. I'm on my second. Had to sell the first due to hard times but decided I wanted another. Scored one on fleabay for about $100.

Does that mean the license for the packs are tied to the hardware? Do you need to do an account transfer of some sort?

Post

Yes, they are PART of the hardware already encoded into the unit's firmware. There are NO extra "model packs". The X3 just has the models from them preinstalled. They cannot be transferred to other line 6 products. If you want to OWN the model packs separately to use in other products you need to create a Line6 account and then buy them separately.

Tho why you would want to do that if you already own an X3 with them installed
is beyond me. I do happen to own the model packs separately as I purchased them when I was still using a PODXT.

Interesting! I already own all the model packs (For Pod Farm when I was using Record via my UX2) and recently purchased a Variax so just figuring out what I can acquire to plug my Variax into Workbench.

I would prefer to buy hardware that has some kind of secondary use for me beyond a Workbench connection so been looking at various Line 6 pedal options :)

Thanks for the info!

For that I think You'll have to upgrade to a Helix.

X3 is fully compatible with Gearbox, Variax guitars and Workbench and has been for over a decade.

So I've done more reading and it appears the Variax 300 will work with an X3 Live perfectly.... as would a HD500. Both seem similar to me with the key differences being significantly less amps/cabs modelled in the HD500 but at a "higher quality". I would also need to purchase the HD model packs for the HD500 to get what I want (bass amp/cab and some other key guitar amps). I don't care that deeply about authentic emulation to warrant the higher cost of the HD.

So now I just need to find a decent used X3 Live near me and sell my UX2 (and I assume give them my Line 6 account with all the Model Packs as I won't need them with the X3 Live including all of them as part of the device license).

Thanks Capn!

Spot on psylink! That's EXACTLY what I would do if I were in your position.
Gonna have to get me a Variax one of these days! :D

Cheers  ......CL
