Testing Repro-1
Sequences, Kick and Percussion and Fx making with only Repro-1 without any additional eq and compression.
Very Good to Use Repro-1 with programmable sequencer, this monophonic synthesizer have minimal sound character .

I'd really like to see this.

While in the past some members mentioned it is very simple so far i was not really successful to create a polyphonic synth from a monophonic synth like Repro-1, especially in Live 9.7.1 as a host.
Now after reading a hint in the thread for The Legend (which has a built-in 4 voice poly mode) thread at Gearslutz i found a free Max For Live device called "PolyMind v2.1" and with this i finally worked here.
On one MIDI track you have to add the "Polymind Brain" M4L plugin. Depending on how many voices you want to play (maximum 16) you add additional MIDI tracks that include both Repro-1 and one of teh 16 "Polymind Satellite" M4L plugins.
Additional MIDI routing does not seem to be necessary so in the first MIDI track (with the "Brain" plugin) you could set your MIDI input and disable "MIDI From" in the others with the "Satellite" plugin.
The seems to do voice cycling so if you play a single not multiple times the voices/instances are cycled.
Additional stereo panning is possible with setting panning for the instances.
Of course using a dedcated poly mode in a plugin has multiple advantages which also includes reduced CPU use but at least it finally seems to work this way and is a nice workaround to get a polyphonic synth.
UPDATE:
Looks like PolyMind was mentioned some pages ago here but i did not notice it there:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... d#p6643287
Like zerocrossing mentioned there it could also make sense to use polyphonic and/or Unison plugins with PolyMind. Seems to be an option to get poly unison.

Ingonator,
Thank you. I found the PolyMind v2.1 software more easily at this link:
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2192/polymind
I downloaded the software, but I don't know yet where to put it yet (I have an iMac OSX 10.9.5 with Cubase AI8). Anybody know?

I could be wrong, though I thought I saw somewhere it was a VST thing also (perhaps that was referring to software different than PolyMind). Sorry for the confusion but i thought it was obvious that using Max 4 Live devices only works in Ableton LIve.
There seem to be other free MIDI plugins that should allow doing a polysynth from monosynths but those did not seem to work for me yet. Polymind is also quite simple to use.
Anyway i just noticed that after reloading a Live project the amount of voices in the "Polymind Brain" plugin resets to 1 and no sound is playing. I have to set the voices value to the desired one again to get it playing.
Not a big thing but could be annoying.
The cool thing about Polymind seems to be that you have the host/main midi FX plugin and multiple "slave" plugins for each voice so no additional MIDI routing is needed ("MIDI From" is set to "Off" with the tracks that include the "Satellite plugins).
Anyway i have not tried using layers and splits of differnt poylphonic sounds yet.
Like zerocrossing mentioned earlier in this thread I was also able to get polyphonic Unison sounds with plugins that are monophonic when Unison is used.

Ingonator,
No problem. Not like I spent loads of time on it. Cubase is the only computer-based DAW I have ever used, so I am a bit naive when it comes to other DAW's.

Got Cubase Pro 9 too and it would be nice how to get this working there (if possible as simple as with Polymind) but i am happy i get it at least working with Live now (which is still my main host).aaron aardvark wrote:Ingonator,

UPDATE:
I now besides the Polymind Max 4 Live device also added a LFO Max 4 Live device (included with Live 9 Suite) for each Repro-1 instance to do a small random master tuning modulation for each voice (using a random waveform). That LFO device could modulate each automatable parameter.
In combination with some stereo panning of the Repro-1 instances this sounds even closer to a proper polysynth now.
The audio output of the Repro-1 instances is routed to an audio track where i could add external FXs (e.g. a Lexicon MPX Native Reverb).
UPDATE:
Two screnshots of a Repro-1 5 voice poly setup using the Polymind M4L device and a M4L LFO device in Live 9.7.1:

An audio demo using the Repro-1/Polymind/Live 9 poly setup in the screenshot posted above:
IW - Repro-1 - Polymind Demo 01
This was recorded "live", no multitrack recording used. At the audio track where the 5 Repro-1 instances/voices were routed to a Lexicon MPX Native Reverb was added. No other built-in or external audio FXs added besides the Polymind and LFO M4L MIDI plugins.
As mentioned above the instances are slightly panned to add stereo spread and the LFO module adds a small random detuning to the Repro-1 instances.
The patch (shown in the screenshot above) is a modified patch inspired by a reprogrammed Prophet 5 preset from Arturia Prophet V3.
UPDATE:
The same track but additionally with the ERS Dim D Chorus added (Chorus Mode 3, set to 100% wet):
IW - Repro-1 - Polymind + Dim D + MPX Demo 01
The Dim D Chorus is more subtle and/or less "destructive" to the sound than many other vintage Chorus FXs and has a nice stereo widening effect.
Here is another example using an Ensemble FX in ValhallaÜberMod that i recreated there from my Waldorf Streichfett String synth (Ensemble set to 50% wet):
IW - Repro-1 - Polymind + ÜberMod + MPX Demo 01
The Übermod preset (and another one) was posted here:

Ingo,
I liked the first and second mp3's best (nice). With each note panning a bit, it reminds me of certain Oberheim clone plug-ins, with each note panning a bit. In the past, it didn't sound like u-he would make a polyphonic RePro-1, though you can't help wonder "what if they did"?
